Midland Hotel

Classic hotel. The 80’ 5*. Great view from room 222. Nonetheless the room is outdated. The elevator is ages old. Good for short stay. The location is superb with walking distance to Morrisons and Aldi. Great breakfast and environment.

This art deco hotel has been turned into a gastro pub. The iconic reception has been ripped out and now you check-in at the bar. There is a promotion offered at check-in for you to waive house-keeping during your stay for a complimentary drink per person per night. As printed on the voucher you receive. This was reneged by the bar staff who contradicted the voucher. So for 2 people staying 2 nights, the voucher is not worth the 4 complimentary drinks but just 2. Also GONE is table service. You have to find a table where there is a pod holding paper napkin wrapped cutlery and your pre-printed menu cards offering gastro-pub choice - Chicken and chips, pie and chips, scampi and chips, burger and chips. Gone is the fine dining. You take your table number to the bar where you place your food order and pay for it. Gastro-pub style. Gone are the table cloths. And missing half of the selection of drinks from the pre-printed drinks menu. And gone are the smartly dressed (pressed) waiting staff. We had the intention of ordering the legendary afternoon tea that was ALWAYS fully booked (100+ covers) in the sea-view dining room. That looks like that has been hived off into a side room. A visit there showed that no one had booked. So passed on that. The place used to be immaculate but the carpets and furnishings are looking tired. The outside masonry is well due a cleaning.

Standards have gone down Staff need proper training.. Trays were dirty in the 6 times we ate there we had to ask for empty salt cellars to be filled on 3 separate occasions. When asked to sign a bar tab it was placed on a wet bar from spilled drinks most of the young people working there were doing their best but obviously hadn't been shown the full extent of their duties.

Lovely 2 night stay with lunch both days for family occasion. We were very well looked after by the excellent staff in a beautiful location.

The wine was not chilled very well, ice was just at bottom of bucket. Fish and chips was not so good , fish was overcooked , chips were a bit soggy and mushy peas were luke warm. The rest of the food was excellent as was our breakfast.

A lovely art deco hotel, in a bit of love and care, decoration and minor works needed. Only had one evening, nicely located on the front of Morecombe and would book again.

Having stayed at the midland on numerous occassions in the last 10 years, we were looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately it just didnt feel the same. Its lost its soul....or more likely had it sold it to the' inn collection' who have cheapened the hotel experience. The reception desk has been move to a ludicrous position, right next to the bar, and you have to feel for the staff who have to answer the phone in a very noisy area. You could clearly see the strain. I'm guessing the sole reason for this was create more table space for eating/drinking? The restaraunt is now open 12-9 to all and sundry. The quality of the food was decent, but it's become run-of-the-mill pub grub. There is no seperate allocated area for hotel guests, so no matter how much you've spent on the hotel stay, you're no different to joe blogg, whos just walked in. I'm sorry, but i want more than that. Our room was clean and well appointed, but like the rest of the hotel, its beginning to look tired, and in need of a revamp. The staff are lovely, the views over the sea are fabulous, but overall, it was a dissapointing experience, and we both agreed that it will be our last visit to the midland.

This used to be an experience hotel. Surrounded by the art deco grandeur with white linen and white china. It was clean and fresh. Now it is dirty and the ceiling in the restaurant looks like it might fall down. The menu which used to be worth travelling for is just pub food (we didn’t bother) and breakfast wouldn’t fill you with confidence. Of course you can’t spoil a view or can you. Best to go before the windows are do dirty you can’t see through them. Or just go for coffee you could buy anywhere and make do with a view for a while. It’s not as luxurious as a travelodge. Not my cup of tea!

Beautiful iconic building badly needing updated. Exterior needs a repaint and interior reminded me of an upmarket Wetherspoons. Reception area very odd with receptionist trying to run the bar as well. If you want to attract more upmarket business then guests need a proper welcome. The idea of ordering every course at the bar is what u expect in a pub. En suite arrangement was quirky and a bit awkward. Not sure about it. Sun terrace windows were filthy and the smell of chips cooking really spoiled it for me. Overall disappointing experience!
