Mivumo River Lodge

This lodge was great, and we stayed at a private villa with a river over look. All of the lodge main areas and villas overlook the river. The villas have air conditioning, and were clean and comfortable. They had a nice bathroom, including an inside tube and exterior private shower. There was also a private sundeck overlooking the river. They have a small pool at the main lodge which was clean and nice. The food was pretty good, and you have choices at each meal, and lots of food. We did game drives, a river cruise and bush nature walk, and we enjoyed all of them. Our main guide was Jumbe, who was very knowledgeable and great and answered all our questions. The river cruise was super cool, and you can see lots of animals along the river in a different type of safari than other places in Tanzania. The staff are helpful, friendly and did a great job with service.

The flight from zanzibar to kiba airstrip was a brilliant start to our 2 day safari. We met our guide abel at the airstrip, who shared his vast knowledge of the wildlife & surrounding areas on our jeep safari through nyerere park . It was amazing. We Loved it & it just kept getting better . We arrived at mivumo lodge late afternoon & we was stunned by this place , the setting is unreal . On the banks of the rufiji river . The staff are so friendly & welcoming. the food was great . Day 2 - morning boat safari on the river with our guide issa , who shared his knowledge of the river & wildlife. A great trip , we even saw giraffes from the boat We returned to the lodge for lunch , before our trip to the airstrip with abel & park ranger paul . Giraffes & impala popping up all over ,also 2 elephants with there baby 😍 Overall an amazing experience Thank you

We stayed at the Lodge for three nights. Our guide Richard was there to meet us at the airstrip following which there was a long and bumpy journey to the Lodge. The Lodge itself is lovely although we felt the rooms were dated and the steps down to the room were in our view too steep. The main area looked over the Rufigi river which was fabulous. On our first afternoon we went on a river safari which was so good we ended up doing one each afternoon we were there. The game drive however was not so great. We did the same long and bumpy drive to the swamp area and the same long and bumpy drive back Richard seemed reluctant to take us on a different route out of the camp the following day although he said that we would see a different area. He also said that the Tsetse flies were bad in other areas - they were certainly in evidence. We therefore decided not to go on any more game drives and stuck to the river. The food at the lodge was excellent; in fact it was the best food we had on the whole Safari. We had an issue over our full board package on arrival but this was dealt with by the Lodge and our Travel Agent. We would definitely recommend the Lodge but not for the land based wildlife safaris.

We spent five days here as a family of four, staying in two lodges and doing ten safaris; a mixture of jeep, walking and river safaris, the latter at both sunrise and sunset. We had the most enjoyable experience and felt that we were warmly welcomed into such a wonderful extended family. Nothing was too much trouble and everything felt like it was designed for us, bespoke and personalised. The staff are friendly, hard working and fun. Yuseph and the team of waiters and waitresses looked after us well at meal times, knowing that our son always wanted double portions of the fish and meat and no carbs! The bush breakfast was one of our best memories, and all set out on the bonnet of the jeep, with a tablecloth and napkins, delicious! Emil took good care of our rooms and laundry, his service was exceptional. Sheria organised a special experience on the beach, looking at the stars, around a fire pit, again, an unforgettable experience. Richard and Godsun were our safari guides. Richard is a man of many talents, speaking multiple languages, spotting camouflaged wildlife, and planning a unique safari experience that worked so well for us as a family. Paul, the ranger, accompanied us on the walking safari and star gazing experience, keeping us safe. My son and husband also enjoyed several games of football with the staff in the evening, which everyone enjoyed. Thank you to everyone. The owners should be proud of this wonderful staff team. The safari experience was perfect and this was as a result of such a special staff team.

The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, making us feel incredibly welcome. Unforgettable Safari The highlight was the Selous Safari with our amazing guide, Abely Mrema. His knowledge was impressive he knew every stone and place on the safari. On the first day, we saw lions, giraffes, birds, impalas and a lot more. The second day featured elephants, zebras, hippos and even a leopard! Scenic Boat Ride We ended the first day with a riverboat ride, spotting crocodiles, hippos, buffalo, and more. It was the perfect end to a day of adventure. Highly Recommended Serena Mivumo Lodge is heaven on earth. For an unforgettable experience in Tanzania, this lodge is a must-visit.

We visited as a party of two couples for a 4 night stay at the lodge. From the moment we arrived the experienced was truly amazing. Abel our guide was knowledgeable in both the vegetation and wildlife. We were so fortunate that on our 1st trip to the lodge from the airstrip we encountered so many animals on our wish-list ,elephants, giraffe’s ,hippos and amazingly two lionesses, we couldn’t have asked for more. Abel then took our party out in his jeep each day, answering questions and educating us on how the vegetation was used as medicine for the locals, he truly made the trip exceptional. Thank you Abel. The lodge staff were all so friendly and professional, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and plentiful, with the staff creating a beautiful meal of local cuisine on our last evening and performing a local song/dance. The rooms were large and comfortable with magnificent views of the river, listening to the hippos whilst in your outdoor shower is something never to be forgotten. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of the fabulous excursions offered, which were all amazing , a bush breakfast, river safari with the wonderful Zak and our personal favourite the river sundowner, memories of drinks and canapés whilst watching the sun go down over the river will be with me forever. Finally we would like to thank Alex and his staff for treating us so well and making this such a memorable stay. We would recommend anyone to stay with Alex and his team if you want an African Safari to remember.

The lodge was amazing, we highly recommend it to everyone who is thinking of staying there. The facilities, the location of the lodge right on the river, and of course the wonderful staff who made sure our time spent there was so memorable. The game drives were fantastic and the river cruising at sunset was so special.

A week after our stay here, it’s still hard to put into words how to sum up our safari with Serena. From the moment we arrived at the airstrip to the moment were dropped off, Able, our guide, took great care of us. He was highly professional, highly knowledgeable, his tracking abilities are extraordinary and took us on an experience we’ll never forget. It was just the two of us for the 5 days with Able, so it felt very personalised. We also took an evening and morning boat down the river where we were rewarded with even more incredible experiences! Boatman Zak’s knowledge and spotting skills were also first class. Back at the river lodge, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and our meals overlooking the river were unforgettable. Our lodge was so spacious and extremely comfortable and we loved the outside shower. It was the most unforgettable experience.

The Mivumo Hotel in Selous Game Reserve is amazing. The location allows guests to enjoy the best views in the Park, listen and see incredible animals at night when taking a rest at those incredible cottages. And the staff, they can't be more kind and at all times available to help! Food is also delicious. Just the best experience ever to celebrate the Silver Wedding with my husband and 4 children!
