My wife and I recently spent a Saturday night at the Doubletree Hotel in Mundelein, IL. We booked the room as part of a hotel block for a wedding that we were attending, so I can’t really comment on the price. The hotel is located on a fairly busy highway with various commercial businesses, including some fast casual restaurants, nearby. The hotel is quite large and has almost 200 rooms. I was told that it was built in the 60’s, but it obviously has had a recent remodel with a Craftsman/Frank Lloyd Wright vibe. The lobby was sort of sparse, but did have some Stickley-style chairs for lounging. Parking and wi-fi is free. There several meeting rooms and a business center, which was temporarily closed. A fitness center and indoor pool are also off the lobby. (We didn’t use any of these amenities.) Breakfast was not included in the room rate, but on-site dining is offered at the Karma Pub. Check-in was courteous and efficient. As is apparently customary at Doubletrees, we were given warmed chocolate chip cookies when we registered. We were assigned room 112 on the first floor, which faced a quiet courtyard. There was a second door to access a dedicated outdoor patio, but there was no furniture outside. (See pic) Maybe it was already. stored for the season? The room was clean and decorated with earth tones in the Craftsman style. All the furniture had a Mission-style to it. A flat screen TV was on a tall two-door cabinet. (There were three small drawers in the cabinet, a dorm-sized refrigerator and a coffee brewer with fixings.). Other furniture included a wide desk with office chair, an upholstered bench along the courtyard window, and a Stickley knock-off lounge chair/ottoman. A fairly small closet contained an iron/ironing board and wall safe. The king-size bed had five pillows. The bed was a little soft, but comfortable. It was flanked by mis-matched nightstands with lamps. There was a digital clock on one. Two power cubes each with four USB ports were also in the room.
The bathroom was average-sized. The vanity had lots of counter space. The shower was generously sized. There was a hair dryer, wall-mounted toiletries (hand soap, hair/body wash, and body lotion) by Crabtree & Evelyn. Shower pressure and water temperature were fine. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and would recommend it if you are looking for lodging in the Mundelein/Libertyville area.
