Hotel berhampiran Recreation Reserve, Napier

Carpet stained, paint peeling from bathroom ceiling and piece of paper stating no room service old and tattered. Shower rail full of crap which got pulled down with towel after shower...YUK. Movie channel not available and worn out compedium said office available until 9pm - left a message well before this and still awaiting a response. Paid $345 cash per night for a second rate room. External stairs being all steel are so bloody noisy any peace and quite is gone, especially early morning - so don't stay in room next to the stairs. Took two emails over a week to get a response which just blamed Covid.....over that. Did not get advised on check in re no room service - in reflection there is just no service here. Have stayed many times before privately and with work but not going back.

Unique, very central to shops and restaurants, clean - loved the dome dining room. Plenty of space for a family of 5/6. Reserved Car park about 500m from the unit, but unloaded from the loading bay then got my partner to walk back. Lovely views. Quiet. Underfloor heating in en-suite, Would definitely stay here again. If staying for one night only I would use car parks on street and pay hourly parking rate as the car park was not in a building, and parking was free after 6pm.

I stayed here for two nights in May 2023. The hotel has the best location for Napier, right in the CBD and a 2-minute walk to the Napier War Memorial Centre (where many conferences are held). The hotel retains its heritage features, so it's not a modern hotel but it is clean and tidy and almost as new. The room had a TV, iron and ironing board, comfortable bed, mini fridge, tea and coffee facilities. My room faced the street but there was no noise. However, the room overall was small - would definitely be a squeeze for more than one person for a long stay. The writing desk was small and the wifi was a bit slow at times. Parking was somewhat problematic. I arrived and parked my car nearby, went to reception and they pointed out the parking area which is just a couple of blocks from the hotel. When I arrived at the parking area (a large paid parking area), the places reserved for the hotel were all full. I checked back a few times over the next few hours and that remained the case. Finally I parked in one of the non-reserved areas and the hotel said that they would pay that charge for me (I didn't have to pay anything as I booked directly with the hotel and that included free parking). The people at the hotel were very apologetic about the parking situation. I don't know what happened with the cleaning of my room as it wasn't cleaned at all after the first night, ie bed was not made, rubbish not removed, and coffee not replenished. Maybe this was just an oversight but, if it is the policy not to service rooms, at least the rubbish should have been removed and the coffee replenished.

Not too impressed with this place. The lobby is so small that when a large group arrives, as we did, we couldn't all get in the door with our lugguge. Even when you're on your own, the two lifts are so close to the front door, that the automatic doors keep opening & closing whilst you wait. Ridiculous. The Dining Room only has one small toaster for the whole of breakfast service, resulting in long queues & long waits. My room was large & comfortable, but the bathroom tiny. The location of the hotel is good, with many rooms having a sea-view (through the Nordic pines) and it's close to downtown with its pubs & bars. OK for one night.

After a pleasant reception we were shown where to park the car with plenty of spaces and how to reach our room. It was spacious and excellently equipped with a lovely bathroom with a stunning view. The room had a balcony with table and chairs with fabulous views also. Room service was extremely good. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order with a very good choice. All staff were smiling and polite and gave us excellent advice. The location is really good with lots of good restaurants and bars within minutes. We would unhesitatingly come here again and would highly recommend this hotel.

Arrived not long after check in. We had booked an upper level beachfront room. Our room ended up being on the second floor with obscured views of the ocean due to a direct view of the Hot Chick and Boardwalk restaurants. This is not really an issue but when you actually book and pay more for an upper beachfront with views that’s what you expect. Whilst unpacking husband turned on the tv only to find it didn’t work. This was rectified immediately by staff. Excellent shower and great parking. Communal corridor carpeting could do with replacing and the back stairwell exit had a horrible smell. Didn’t spend anytime relaxing on balcony due to uncomfortable chairs x 2 with no table and a very noisey restaurant/cafe directly next door. Also drapes within our room could do with a dry clean, grubby fingerprints and marks on them. Overall an average stay and a little overpriced.

My suite at harbour view was just what I needed. With a beautiful view and very reasonable room, I now feel refreshed. The spa bath and high pressure shower was great. The room comes with full Sky TV and outdoor furniture for the balcony. The room was spotless when I arrived. While the building is outdated, I saw two contractors painting today, so I feel the owner is working on updating and improving this which is great to see. Interestingly, I picked this motel because the room was a great price. I normally expect to see something wrong when this happens, but I was pleasantly surprised. Had a wonderful stay at Porters - lovely room, king size bed, with everything you need, and a small private balcony. Perfect part of town, so close to everything, undercover parking included. We found the staff to be absolutely top notch, so welcoming and happy to do absolutely anything to make your stay as good as possible. In particular, we'd like to compliment Christopher, who was so helpful and kind. On the nights we were there, the restaurant wasn't open for breakfast, so we were given vouchers to Maina nearby and it serves about the best breakfast you could find anywhere! Basically, this is a great hotel, they're doing everything right.
