Hotel berhampiran Riverside Park, Napier

Really surprised by the recent negative reviews for this motel, as we had a good experience, albeit we only stayed for one night so didn't have long to appreciate it and didn't need to use the kitchenette. We arrived at 1215 and were very grateful to find that our 1st floor ocean front room with spa bath was available, well before the stipulated check in time, as we were booked to be picked up by the Grape Escapes Vineyard Tour 15 mins later and had anticipated only being able to leave the car there. When we got back to the motel early evening we used the washer and dryer facilities and also enjoyed the lovely spa bath at the back of the room which felt like a real treat. The room itself was nicely decorated and spacious. We then headed out for dinner and managed to get a late table at the very nice Hunger Monger restaurant, which is about 15mins walk into the town. We walked into town again first thing in the morning and enjoyed breakfast at the Albion Canteen and had a quick look around town at the art deco buildings. With what little time we had we enjoyed the ocean view from the hotel. The beach is stony so not really one to sit on. The hotel has its own car park via a driveway that goes through to the back, and is also accessible from the parallel road behind. The roads are very quiet at night so no issues there. We enjoyed our short but sweet stay and would be happy to recommend the hotel, although as it was part of a month's touring package I don't know what the rate was that we paid.

Well this is a first!! The first terrible review we have ever written! We had a confirmed booking a year ago at this Motel through *********** for a concert and had put all our plans in place to get away, including travelling some distance to get there. We suddenly received a cancellation notice from this Motel via *********** for no reason and just a few weeks before the concert. This weekend was v popular and there are no other options for accomodation at such short notice. After repeated attempts to call the Motel, messages and emails left unanswered and *********** confirming the booking was cancelled by the Motel, we can only assume that they have resold our room for a higher price and put money well above any commitment to customers or service. By far the worst experience we have had of lack of communication, unprofessionalism and a lack of respect from a hospitality business in NZ. An extremely disappointing and frustrating experience from an accomodation provider who doesn’t seem to care.

Booked this property through ***********. Quite shocked on arrival. The premises is well past its prime. Old and dingy with wooden steps upstairs and wooden verandah to each room that produced loud footsteps by passers by. The room was basic with a very small tight area for preparing coffee or tea but had a toaster that meant having to move everything else to enable its use. The microwave was above this space but we did not use it. Parking was an issue. We were allocated a bay but that was already in use so told “ just use the next one” which probably created a snowball effect. The parking bays a very tight too.

This older but well-maintained property is ideally located in Napier. It is within walking distance of the old downtown and a number of very good restaurants; it also faces Hawke's Bay (some rooms probably have an ocean view). It was surprisingly quiet despite being on the main street by the water. The owners are very helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a good kitchenette that we used daily for breakfast. The room was little quirky, in a fun way. The bedroom included a giant bathtub that reminded me of something from a honeymoon suite in the Pocono Mountains. There was also a separate bathroom that included a shower. For wine lovers, the motel is a short drive from the greatest concentration of high end cellar doors (tasting rooms) in Hawke's Bay. This facility met our needs well.

My suite at harbour view was just what I needed. With a beautiful view and very reasonable room, I now feel refreshed. The spa bath and high pressure shower was great. The room comes with full Sky TV and outdoor furniture for the balcony. The room was spotless when I arrived. While the building is outdated, I saw two contractors painting today, so I feel the owner is working on updating and improving this which is great to see. Interestingly, I picked this motel because the room was a great price. I normally expect to see something wrong when this happens, but I was pleasantly surprised. We stayed here based on the positive reviews but unfortunately we didn’t get much of the same experience. The cleaning was pretty average - there was some sort of sticky residue on the toilet seat in several places. There were short hairs on the bed sheets and we wondered if they were clean. The throw blanket on the end of the bed was dirty (also no spare blankets for a cold night either). The curtains were disgusting. It’s in need of some attention as it’s looking very tired. As mentioned, the curtains were filthy. There were heaps of dings and marks on the walls - don’t think I’ve ever seen so many in a hotel room. Some of the drawers were hard to open and shut so need fixing. The push button on the bathroom bin was broken so it had to be opened manually. In the main area there was no proper signage for lifts, etc. We found the cost quite expensive for what it was. Unsure if there is meant to be a sea view but there wasn’t unless you stood out on the deck and then you could see a glimpse. The room was very tired as mentioned. The cleaning was average. Parking was ok but a bit tight. Customer service ok. I think we’d possibly stay again after a revamp.

Stayed in Pacific Room Two. A beautiful apartment in a heritage building, with views of the ocean. Very comfortable and stylish with heat pumps in the kitchen lounge and in the separate bedroom. Small kitchen is available for making home-cooked meals, but the apartment is just a few minutes walk for several excellent restaurants and cafes. Just a few minutes walk also to the main retail shopping area. Highly recommended!

This is the perfect place to stay to complete your Art Deco experience in Napier. The hotel has been thoughtfully updated to 21st century standards without losing any of its period charm. We stayed in a Queen Room which was compact but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Comfortable bed,good pillows and fresh linen. Tea and coffee making facilities. Mugs and pretty blue tea cups in keeping with the era. Iron and Ironing board. The bathroom was tight but had good lighting for makeup application and good water pressure. Ate at the restaurant twice and were happy with our meals. 10% discount as we were hotel guests. Attentive service from our wait staff. Parking is offsite but staff at reception were more than happy to store our suitcases in the luggage room while we collected our car. Parking $15:00 per night. No issues at check in or checkout. Central location. Would recommend.

The site is well set out, the caravan sites had some privacy. The ablution blocks were pristine every day, kitchen is well kitted out, provides a great laundry , lounge area, barbecue area with a covered roof and seating, playground for the children, beach just a stroll away, cafe. Maybe the only other thing that could enhance it are a few spa pools, both private pools and outside pools for everyone. Has friendly staff. Not too far away from Napier shopping area, airport just down the road, a great place to stay

I’ve stayed here for work a few times and have always enjoyed the hotel but as a family I wasn’t overly impressed this trip. I emailed to ask for a cot and when I arrived at the hotel to check in and pay, I found they charged for it. I’ve traveled extensively with my baby in multiple countries and have never been charged for one. Was more annoyed that they didn’t tell me there would be a charge when I emailed. The front desk also had someone follow me into the room to remove the booked one and could tell they weren’t impressed. Would have left it if I had known there was a charge when I booked.
