Good clean hotel. Good location, centre of city to get to various locations with ease

Hotel getting tired looking. Stayed there when first opened.
Bathrooms definitely need updating.
Communication could be better when checking in about incidentals holding charge.
The location is GREAT very walkable to everything.
Sad that hotel with being bought by a Spanish chain has not recognized need to refurnish rooms in order to maintain status of staying at The James.

The James NoMad listed as a 4 star, seems more 3 star. The location was great, as was the entrance lobby, only we felt the rooms didn't quite live up to 4 stars. Mostly because attention-to-detail was lacking. We booked two rooms for four nights, and both rooms lacked some basic care. For example, first impressions really count right? Upon entering my bedroom, I noticed some large marks on bedroom wall that could easy be moved with some wipes (a tad shabby to leave them there). My room was a double, and my sisters was a family room – both rooms had just one robe each. Our bathroom toiletries were not replaced with daily housekeeping (i.e. I used my earbuds on day 1, no new earbuds for remaining days).
In the lobby, the hotel promotes itself to provide fresh tea, coffee, fruit, and treats, daily. This felt a slight overplay as most mornings it was just tea and coffee, no fruit or treats.
If you are a light sleeper this hotel is not for you as it isn't a high-rise, so rooms are close to street level, you hear traffic 29th & Maddison traffic. My sister’s room was 1 metre from guest elevators, so through the night she'd hear elevator doors open & close with guests in / out.
Check out was incredibly slow, we lined for 15 mins with one team member on the desk, although she was friendly and helpful (another team member trying his best to help but could not log on). I had hoped this hotel would be better being a regular in NYC only probably would not to The James.

The hotel is nice but the room was NOT good. Very disappointed about it. The staff is mostly nice, the front desk lady wasn’t exactly the warmest but the luggage people were phenomenal. Especially Adis (?)

The lobby and restaurant are great, as is the proximity to many tourist sites. The rooms are not modern and homey feeling, which was surprising given the price per night.
