Hotel berhampiran Malverleys Gardens, Newbury

Have just returned from a 2 night. 3 rounds of golf trip at Donnington Valley Hotel and Spa. We were a party of 20 ladies and the whole experience was superb. The booking arrangements through Group Reservations were efficient, friendly and seemless (little things like requesting dinner menu choices in advance and then placing cards with each name and menu choice on our dining table each evening, just lovely). Booking in and out was again efficient and friendly. We all appreciated the quality of the rooms (comfy beds, nice bathrooms) The spa and the gym were well used by those with enough energy after each round of golf! The restaurant breakfast and dinner each day was excellent. All in all we coud not fault the hotel and would thank all the staff for looking after us so well. With regard to the golf course itself...it is not especially easy, particularly the back 9 and quite hilly but was in beautiful condition and thoroughly enjoyable. Again the staff at the clubhouse couldn't have been more helpful. We had such a great time that we plan to go back next year for our annual golf trip,

In the heart of Hungerford it was a pleasure to stay at The Three Swans. The staff team were so friendly and helpful. The food from their chefs excellent and reasonably priced. The accommodation very comfortable. Plenty of plug sockets, comfortable bed. Only one very minor suggestions. A light over the dressing table would be helpful. The outdoor space is next to the annex rooms and was a bit noisy until around 11.30pm. Parking is also limited to pay annd display anlthough plenty of on street parking free from 6pm until 8 am. Overall a very pleasant stay.

A bit like the famous saying ”Nothing is certain except death and taxes”, you use to be able to say that with Travelodge that ”You could be certain of a great shower and comfy mattress” However, this is the 2nd 'New' style Travelodge we have stayed at where the shower has been naff. The 'Old' style Travelodge's always have a great power shower - which was perfect for easing away the stress and aches+pains of a long drive or a long day out. However, with the 'new' most definitely not improved sites, the showers have been fitted with new heads which severely restrict the flow. If were to have a soak in the tub, you won't have to wait long to fill the tub as the flow from the bath tap is fine - but the shower head has these tiny pinhole outlets which make the whole thing feel like you are walking through a warm drizzle. So, so disappointing!

Wasn't impressed to receive text whilst abroad to say if we checked in late our room could be let. We were flying back and couldn't guarantee getting there at 3 pm. Had to get family member to call to explain. There are 2 Travelodges, one each side of the motorway. We booked the westbound one. Both have the same postcode. Our satnav only recognised Eastbound side. Result was they couldn't find our reservation. Apparently this happens a lot. Staff redirected us so only a few minutes and a few miles delay. Our arrival delayed by difficulty at Heathrow,ie Terminal change and over an hour and a half hours delay before passengers could access luggage reclaim. Staff shortages. Arrived at nearly midnight. Only Costa open at services. However, staff at hotel helpful. Situation good and quiet despite proximity to M4. We were very pleasantly surprised. Room clean and plenty of space, bed comfortable, coffee-making facility welcome. Bathroom fine and water hot. Slept really well and plenty of choice for breakfast with services placed only a few yards away but not causing any noise problem at the hotel. Enjoyable stay. Pity about postcode confusion Maybe explanation to take westbound services turnoff given on website when booking would avoid confusion and save people being taken to the eastbound site. We were worried when satnav told us to pass westbound services but assumed hotel was approached by another turnoff shortly after. It would have made our arrival far less fraught to have been aware of the fact there were Travelodges BOTH sides of motorway. The hotel itself was good and gave us a comfortable night.
