Nikko Hoshino Yado

Took the hotel pick up shuttle at the Nikko JR station, it took about 5 minutes to reach the hotel. There are quite a number of shops and restaurants nearby the hotel. The famous Toshogu which is the tomb of Tokugawa Ieyasuis located within 20 minutes with walk, and the Shinkyo bridge is even closer. The hotel is hiding up hill at the end of the main onsen street with not many rooms. Check in was smooth, we were offered a hot tea while waiting in the lobby lounge. We booked a rather big room located at the end of the hallway, with separate living room and bedroom. The bedroom has the western style beds and the massage lounger. The public bath is located further down the way through an outdoor walkway. The public bath and outdoor bath is relatively small but there are not many people using it. We are having the breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. The serving of yuba is interesting, you are given the food material and the stove to cook for yourself and served hot. We have the luxury dinner on the second night so we were seated inside a private room overlooking the garden. The food is sumptuous and well worth the money. There are quite many foreign customers patronizing the hotel during the period.
Okunoin Hotel Tokugawa

If you are looking for a traditional Japanese resort experience in an area laden with history and lore, this is the place to book: rooms with tatami beds and sliding partitions, private and public hot springs, relax rooms, lounges and an inner landscaped garden dotted with fish ponds and interesting vegetation. Plus, of course, today’s necessities like Wi-Fi, climate control, sentient toilet seats and a full array of quality complimentary cosmetics. Based upon a casual observation, the place seems to target primarily couples looking for rest and relaxation, but worked just as well for our family of four, which includes two teenagers. As everywhere else we went, the staff was always very attentive and ready to assist however possible. LOCATION: offering both privacy and convenience, the hotel is located along an unassuming country road, a ten minute walk from the main thoroughfare connecting Nikko with Lake Chōzenji and served by local buses, with a stop just 100 meters down the road. Buses generally run two or three times an hour, but without a regular pattern, so plan accordingly (the front desk, of course, has all the schedules and route information handy). The hotel is also within walking distance of the shrine complex that is Nikko’s main attraction. ROOM: we spent two nights in an Aqua Deluxe Suite, which accommodates four guests in two separate partitioned areas, one with Western beds and the other with tatami beds set up every night. The room also features a sitting room and separate toilet, sink and shower areas. We had to be a little creative in storing our suitcases (pack lightly when travelling around Japan!) but the room actually offered more storage space than initially observed. The key feature of the room is an outdoor hot bath tub overlooking a private man-made pond closed off by a wall, offering complete privacy. After a day of hikes, it was a pleasure to soak in the tub surrounded by nothing but the sound of cascading water and chirping insects. AMENITIES: breakfast and dinner were included in the room rate, and I recommend taking full advantage of them. All the meals, with a set rotating menu, offered a great variety of what we took as local fish, meat and vegetable dishes, all prepared with quality ingredients and artfully served in private rooms. And don’t be deceived by the small portions: you will end up eating a lot! All meals are served at fixed hours, requiring advance reservations. The hot springs offer both indoors and outdoor basins: in a place like this, just wear the hotel-provided yukata and slippers and embrace the Japanese way of relaxation.
Fufu Nikko

Just enjoyed an exceptional first stay at FUFU Nikko with my sister and mum. The service from arrival to departure was wonderful - attentive, considerate and diligent. No request was too much trouble even after I inexplicably mixed up my reservation dates! The rooms were beautifully and simply decorated with every modern convenience you could want during a short stay. Large windows facing out to the forest provides ample natural light, a scenic backdrop and a degree of privacy. Rooms were spacious, inclusive of a living room and provided ample space for the three of us. Each guest receives lounge wear, which you can wear around the hotel, including in the restaurant, outdoor and indoor slippers, night shirt and bath robes. If you need more of something whilst in your room or want fresh items including of the clothing provided, no problem, you can call reception and it will be deposited in a convenient two-way deposit box. This is an excellent feature allowing you to access it from your room without having to open the door and can be collected when convenient. The in-room onsen (private hot spring bath) was beautiful and exactly what we hoped for. It is maintained at a temperature of 42 degrees (and can be cooled) ready to enjoy day or night. The times for pre-booked breakfast and dinner are agreed and provided on handwritten on cards at check in for easy reference. Food and drink options were brilliant. Dinner options were seven course menus and you can choose between Teppanyaki and traditional Japanese. Breakfast was five courses and you can choose between Japanese and “Western”. Breakfast and dinners are served in private dining rooms so you able to enjoy peacefully with just your guests. My sister has several dietary requirements and they took great care in understanding these and preparing delicious alternatives for her. Lunch is not provided and the in-dining room menu is limited, so if you are not going into town during the day where there are lots of food options, we would recommend packing some snacks. However breakfast and dinner are so filling! In addition you can be served a selection of free drinks from 16:30-19:30 each night including premium options. We enjoyed the glasses of champagne by the lounge fire before dinner each night. All in all, I would urge anyone considering to go ahead and book. You will not be disappointed. We plan to go back!
Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Kinugawa Kanko Hotel
