After a long day hiking we arrived to a warm welcome from the owner at the George Hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the pub was warm and cheerful and just what we wanted after our hike. All the staff were friendly and helpful ( especially the gentleman who served breakfast who we had a nice chat to) The breakfast the next morning was a lovely change from the usual cooked breakfasts we had on the coast to coast walk and set us up perfectly for another long days hike.

Stayed at Teebay and fancied a country walk, which found us at The George in Orton. Nicely decorated pub inside and friendly manager who we had a lovely chat with. Nice big fireplace and selection of beers which we enjoyed watching the world go by in the roadside beer garden. Pub needs to smarten up the outside though - sun bleached banners and incorrect signs (wrong brewery!) with letters missing let down this otherwise delightful country watering hole.

Room 7 - top floor for one night as a walk-in late booking. Ensuite bathroom was dirty and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for some time. Bed was creaky and not. very comfortable at all. Cobwebs everywhere around the room. Wires hanging out of the wall and mis-aligned sockets. Worst of all was the cost....£145 for the night!! No cooked breakfast and no saving grace of decent coffee. Staff reasonably friendly but complaining about how busy it was, yet there were only 20 people in the bar/restaurant. Food in the restaurant was bland and over-priced. Never again.

A welcoming village pub. Friendly staff. Lovely town to visit on the coast to coast walk. Room was comfortable, food was good. Continental type breakfast with a good enough selection. Was also popular with the locals who all seemed to come for their Saturday dinner.

Spent a night at the George while walking the Coast to Coast path. It’s a fabulous, friendly pub at just the right place to break up the leg from Shap to Kirkby Stephen. A great welcome, a fabulous room which had just been refurbished. I’d been camping and really appreciated the good shower and the epic bed. Dinner was excellent, chosen from a good pub menu. An excellent cold buffet breakfast in the morning, with mountains of fruit and a great bakery selection, rounded off a perfect stay. Drop in, you’ll have a great night. Thanks

What a lovely traditional English pub this is. We came as a family and have been told that the new owners have started to refurb the place and all the rooms have been up graded and refurbished. We loved our stay and they have lovely home made food aswel Will definitely be returning

Booked a table at this warm, welcoming inn for our first night staying in Cumbria. Absolutely amazing food and the staff were friendly and attentive. We were a group of four who had different meals and everything was perfect. Left with smiles on our faces and a belly full of food. Highly recommend to anyone staying in the area.

Fantastic little pub on the coast to coast walk, the hosts are really friendly. We had a cosy room with everything we needed after a days walking. The breakfast continental was a fabulous spread to set us up for the day and the dinner was lovely home made.

We stayed here with friends as part of the Coast to Coast walk. The hotel has only just reopened and Neil and his team are doing an amazing job. The rooms whilst on the small side had everything we needed and were cosy and warm. We had dinner which was excellent- probably the best meal we had all week and breakfast was great. It was a very interesting continental breakfast which made a nice change from all the fry ups we had and was served by a lovely chap. The breakfast room was a bit on the cool side but that aside this was a very good stop over and was topped off by an excellent packed lunch supplied for our walk - would recommend
