Intended to be a happy return visit after some years turned into a hugely disappointing experience for myself and my wife. Hotel is certainly not 5 star compared to others in Portugal; - bedroom acceptable but bathroom needs work on water egress from under bath after showers - toilet tissue seems to be rationed. Breakfast hot buffet not very enticing but selection of fruit and cereals fine. Two restaurant options available for evening meals - bar food or one other depending on the day of the week! Bar food menu very limited and the main restaurant very overpriced. Food quality acceptable. In general and with a couple of exceptions, we found that staff were a tad rude/abrupt on occasions (reception, night bar floor staff and golf shop in particular). Golf: Having obviously suffered from a very hot summer the course was in appalling condition with fairways and rough indistinguishable on some holes. The greens were also in very poor condition. The bad state of the course was sad to see as previous experience was so positive. We did however play one other nearby course where the greens were magnificent and fairways passable so I don’t accept Penina claim that nothing could prevent the poor state of their course given the summer weather. BTW, weather was bad!
NH Marina Portimao Resort

A truly great experience!! Room was comfortable and housekeeping excellent. Well placed with a view of the Marina. The highlight of each morning of my 5 night stay was the Breakfast. Fantastic choice and everything well cooked and presented. The staff, particularly the trainees, were always friendly and obliging. I couldn't fault anything about the Breakfast at all. The situation of the Hotel was ideal for me but might not suit everyone as it was sited out of the Town. A beautiful beach was adjacent to the Hotel and even out of season there were a variety of Restaurants nearby. All staff, the Receptionists, Restaurant staff and Housekeeping were outstanding, always greeted me with a smile and very helpful.

Llagamos sobre las 15h de la tarde y la persona de la recepción no encontraba nuestra reserva hecha a través de Trip.com. Con mucho cabreo e insistencia nos dijo que no podía hacer nada y que teníamos que contactar con Trip.com para solucionar la cosa con ellos (tras 9horas de viaje y todos los correos posibles de confirmación). Mientras que esperaba que los de Trip.com nos respondieran, nos llama otra persona diciendo que todo estaba en orden, que no la encontraban por un ”error informático”. Ni una disculpa, nada. La habitación no estaba mal, segunda planta, bien situada. Instalación del hotel vieja, las 5 estrellas no se merecen, sinceramente, es un 4 estrellas actual, para el precio pagado está bien. Desayuno a buffet bueno, servicio igual de bueno y atento. Tuvimos un problema un día que no hicieron la habitación, tuvimos que reclamar a las 19:30h y la limpiaron y hicieron muy de prisa (y de manera bastante ”ligera”), pero, bueno.... No podemos opinar sobre SPA, Gimnasio etc ya que no hemos probado esos servicios.
Pestana Alvor Beach Villas

Just back from a fantastic stay in pestana beach villas. We were a group of 6 friends. Accommodation was great, really clean and spacious. The options of the few different pools you can go to in the complex was great. All the staff were friendly and helpful but Wanda really went above and beyond ensuring we had all we needed. Lovely walk into Alvor town along the boardwalk. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
Algarve Race Resort - Hotel

This hotel is an amazing retreat! Surprisingly you can't hear the noise from the racing track just nearby. The staff is very nice and attentive. The location is great if you want to be in a quiet part of the Algarve (30 minutes from Portimão). The breakfast is great. It has variety and the products are fresh and high quality. The hotel has an amazing outdoor swimming pool, unfortunately the it was too windy and we were not able to enjoy it. The Jacuzzi and the indoor swimming pool are great too! The room is as in the pictures, it is big and the decoration is modern. Overall, we recommend this hotel if you want to enjoy a quiet retreat in the Algarve!
Tivoli Alvor Algarve - All Inclusive Resort

We’ve had a great week at the Tivoli the four of us. Excellent facilities , really spacious modern rooms , the food was lovely. Lots of choice. Drinks are nice too lots of choices of cocktails. Also we dined at the steak house on site which was really good. We was most impressed at the Italian restaurant, the service was by far the best. Most notably by Chaudhry. Nothing was too much trouble. He was an amazing host. He couldn’t do enough for us. He is a credit to your hotel. He should be rewarded I believe for his conduct and how he looked after us from start to finish. We will be coming to the Tivoli again.
