I cannot recommend Agterplaas highly enough. Our room was cool and comfortable with antique furniture and accoutrements a stylish touch. Elroy and Annemie are such gracious hosts, and incredible cooks too! (Filet on the braai for dinner with chili-chocolate sauce, then fresh vetkoek, bacon and eggs for breakfast – what a treat!) The dining room was our favourite place to hang out at the guesthouse, where stories of its twenty-five year history could be heard over malva pudding and glasses of wine. Sitting on the balcony that overlooks the koppies in the late afternoon winter sun was an added pleasure. Can't wait to return!

The Mercure Hotel in Randburg is our go-to hotel in Johannesburg. Excellent customer service and comfortable rooms. It's also conveniently located at the new Ferndale on Republic shopping center, where there are great shopping and dining options.

We are locals from another city, but had to be close to this location early on the date of check-out, and found the room at short notice. Great find! The host was fantastic, the atmosphere peaceful, and the room was fantastically themed. Comfortable bed and bedding. The breakfast was prompt, fresh and good quality. I recommend this property!

The rooms had ants, had to be moved to another one on the first night. Breakfast menu was boring and predictable since I was there for 5 days. Ordering dinner was a nightmare, I pre-ordered my meals but they were either wrong or incomplete or not ready when I collected. Shower water all over the bathroom as shower didn't have door in the disabled room, had to use a blanket everyday to stop water from running out into the room. I honestly didn't enjoy my stay as everyday there was always something to complain about at the establishment.

Stunning Datenight❤️ Absolutely wonderful evening with fantastic service and exquisite food❤️ We arrived, hoping that they would have a table for us, as we had not made a reservation 😳 They were absolutely fantastic, showed us to the best table that was reserved...and made us feel absolutely welcome, even though the restaurant was full 😊 We ordered a yummy wine whilst listening the fun, LIVE music and thought that it would take a while for our order.. We were happily surprised, when our food arrive in record time🌹😊 I ordered the beef Espetada, rare, with their seasonal veggies. 🌹 It was delightful and perfectly prepared🔥 My husband ordered the Pork ribs and wow😍 Equally succulent, melt in your mouth, exquisite 🌹 We finished off the night with their delicious chocolate brownies and Ice cream and a second bottle of wine🔥 Our server, Sharon was respectful attentive, thoughtful and extremely helpful🌹Loved the way she looked after us❤️ I would highly recommend their restaurant. Ps...cannot wait to experience their Datenight, Couple special 😊😍😊

Staff are friendly and go the extra mile for your needs. Thank you @Ellouise and @Wilson for their friendly - efficient assistance with my stay. Breakfast is exactly what you need before a busy day in JHB. Comfortable big bed and clean room. Great location, safe secure parking. No complaints - Definitely recommend and will return :-)

I can see that this was a great place to stay in its heyday but has declined over time. Positives are it’s location, friendly and accommodating staff (which one would expect in the hospitality industry) and a reasonable price. Negatives that I experienced were that the place was well worn, tired and in need of some investment. Examples are, worn carpets, hole in the dining room table cloth, frayed bath towels, basin not draining quickly due to matted hair in the strainer (fixed same day), broken suitcase rack (fixed same day), evidence of a dampness problem in the plaster on the wall near the window, extractor fan in the bathroom is dark brown with years of dust on the grill in the ceiling, no Barman on duty - was served by reception staff though. Apart from a buffet breakfast there are no meal facilities at all, not even for a light snack. I have to wonder whether this is actually a hotel or just a conference venue with accommodation. If it is indeed a hotel then this is definitely not the four star establishment despite having four stars next to their name on their website. Would I stay here again? Possibly, but only because it’s convenient & I know what to expect.
