Falkensteiner Hotel Kronplatz - the Leading Hotels of the World

The hotel is located adjacent to a ski area and has a beautifully modern design and lovely gardens. The room was large with a dressing area and large bathroom. The bed was comfortable with a nice down comforter. There was a large spa with a variety of pools, sauna, etc. We ate in the restaurant for two evenings and the food was delicious. Their wine list was extensive, and their wine specialist was very knowledge and helpful. They also had a very large breakfast buffet. This is a very good hotel.

The hotel is stylishly decorated in a quiet area near the lift to Kronplatz. However several things made this not a nice stay that I somewhat regret not just cancelling and paying the €300 fee. I booked a loft suite which is the second largest category and is supposed to be for families or friends. However the first issue with this room is its design: two large windows from the living room right into the bathroom and shower. No blinds, no way to block the view, so if you like me are traveling with friends or family, you will have no privacy in the bathroom. Such an unfortunate and inconvenient design. Second, our room was full of bugs. And not just one or two flies, but like 30-40. I called down and asked for help, a girl came and handed me a can of bug spray and left, no offer to help exterminate them, no help to clean up the dead bugs, no help to change the sheets which were covered in spray and dead bugs. This in no way is 5 star experience, I was ready to leave immediately when this happened, and their lack of assistance only added icing to the cake. I’ve attached photos… would you sleep in that bed?? At check in I told them I wanted turn down service every night and wanted them to make the second bed in the room. They said they would come by 7:30pm while we were at dinner. Came back at 9:45, no turndown service. I called and asked to have the second bed made up, the girl on the phone just said “sorry there’s no more housekeeping.” And hung up. Really? I called two more times before they brought bedding, but I had to make the bed myself. The next night I called down again to ensure I’d get turndown, but this evening, they took the bedding off the double bed and put it on the second bed. This literally makes no sense, why would you take the pillows and duvet off of one bed to make the second bed and take away the other set of bedding? I called down and asked for it to be corrected, again the same response, “sorry there’s no more housekeeping.” Not acceptable. Lastly, on check out, there was a problem with the bellman, he was complaining about taking our bags from the room, and he parked our car in the area away from the cover. It was raining so he just put the bags outside and walked away. I asked him if he was going to pack my car, and he said “no it’s raining” while wearing a full length rain coat. Really? Then he said “if you move the car to the cover, I can help you”… shouldn’t he move the car since he parked it in the rain to begin with?? We were the only guests leaving, it’s not as if they were crowded or busy. So I walked to the car in the rain and circled around so it was under cover, and he still left. I walked after him and said “it’s under cover now, you can pack it” and he just responded “your bags are too heavy” and walked away. Absolutely unacceptable and what a terrible send off to someone who just paid over €900/night for a room. There were more issues beyond this (aircon automatically resets daily to heat at 22 deg

We stayed at Falkensteiner Kronplatz as a family in July 2024. Overall, we had a very good stay. Plus points: - A modern, well designed and architecturally interesting hotel with very comfortable rooms. We booked the most basic room category and had no regrets. The room was spacious, with a large walk in wardrobe and generous bathroom with big rain shower. The outdoor terrace was furnished and very comfortable, too. - Cleanliness. Everywhere. Rooms, public areas, pool, restaurants. - The location is great - just a few steps from the Kronplatz ski lift and a few minutes from beautiful Bruneck. - The two Experience Concierges were really helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. - Our son enjoyed the play room and made friends with a few other children. He also had fun in the pool, and tried the climbing wall. Room for improvement: - The hotel was advertised as family friendly with two pools, a sports pool and a rooftop infinity pool that we were looking forward to using. However, when we arrived we were informed that the rooftop pool was adults only, so we could not use it at all. There were a few other adults only areas, so on balance, the hotel didn't feel massively family friendly. - Evening meals. The hotel said on its website that there was a choice of a multi-course gourmet menu, and a more standard a la carte menu. The latter doesn't seem to exist. We asked twice and were referred to the fussy five course menu both times. Now, this is by no means a bad menu - but it's very complex, and after a few days of tomato dust and vodka air (yes, really), we fancied simpler food. The South Tyrolean option on the menu only changed twice during our 9 day stay, so this unfortunately didn't help... Recommendation: Break it up a bit. Offer a starter and dessert buffet on a few evenings. Use your amazing outdoor space for a barbecue. And please offer a simple, classic a la carte menu in addition to the fancy food. - Service in the restaurant was very hit and miss. On a few evenings, it was a well oiled machine. On others, we waited... and waited... and waited. And were served cold food. And although there was a sommeliere who was keen to take a wine order, getting soft drinks was strangely difficult. On two consecutive evenings, we spent over two hours in the restaurant (despite skipping dessert), so we treated ourselves to pizza in the very good Hotel Corso in Bruneck the following day. What a relief - and perhaps the best meal we had on our holiday! - Related to this, if you are serving adults five courses over two hours, but you only offer one course to children (which takes 20 minutes), then that results in very, very bored children. Again, if you want to be family friendly, you need to do a lot more.
