Hotel de Montaña El Pelicano

Quirky place! Check out the odd carvings and plentiful charging stations! Great for proximity to beautiful forests and waterfalls. Abundant bird life. Restaurant is really terrific. Accommodation is spacious. We enjoyed the pool. Recommended!

El Pelicano hotel in the mountains is Truly a beautiful spot to take in the views, mountains, nature, birds, pleasant climate. The staff is exceptional A+, the ambiance is exactly what we had hoped to find! The restaurant is very nice with a good menu selection and the included breakfast is super fresh! The price of a room is very reasonable as well as the dining here! This hotel gets a top rating for hospitality, ambiance and quality for the price!

Lovely facility! I would highly recommend! Everything was well cared for and spotless. The staff were helpful, friendly and thoughtful. The view was stunning and all the plants and flowers with all the birds and butterflies was gorgeous. The little art gallery was an amazing adventure! A must see!

Yes, this hotel has nice gardens and had a good location near the national park, but the rooms are simply awful. Ours had two beds and a small wood-burning fireplace in the middle of the room and that was it! This place has potential, but the utter lack of amenities (most of which cost very little) is shocking. Here is only a partial list of what was missing from our room: No hand towels. No cups for water. Poor lighting. One single harsh bulb in center of the room. No bedside lamp. Small wood burning fireplace was filthy with ashes. Evidence of bat or rodent feces on the bed sheets. No table. One single cheap plastic chair was brought for us to sit on. No place to put suitcases or personal items except on the floor. Wonky lock on the sliding glass front door that could easily be forced open. No blankets. Just thin sheets and a faded worn bedspread. No hooks anywhere to hang anything. No waste basket. I regret we spent the money to stay here.

There was no sheet on the bed. When you’re undressed for bed is no time to go to the lodge to complain. The TV didn’t work. Otherwise the grounds were beautiful, and the food was good. I saw a jaguarundi cross the lawn.

we stayed here intending to hike Cerro Chirripo and it was a good price in the vicinity of the trailhead. The staff was all very welcoming and friendly; the drinks and food at the restaurant were pretty good. I had expected a little more of the room based on photos; i'm not sure if it was the particular room we were in or just the way it goes. That said it was VERY rustic. that's fine by me, but it seemed it hadn't been given a GOOD cleaning in a bit. i don't mean to sound like a brat, but there were A LOT of spiders and webs all about. i get it, it's the jungle, but i feel like some of those would have been swept away in a cleaning. i also found the bed to be almost unbearably comfortable. anyway, it wasn't all bad. we didn't get to use the pool due to a constant deluge, but it looked clean and nice, with adjacent bathroom facilities. the views from the grounds were quite lovely when the clouds cleared, there is a trail system that begins on the property and the restaurant/bar/reception area were incredibly cozy on the rainy chilly nights. the real trick is getting up the very steep, nearly one lane road to the parking, but that seems par for the course in the area. there are nicer places to stay, but they definitely could break the bank, and this one is just great for the price range.
