After the hustle and bustle of Barcelona, we felt like we'd stepped into a world of serenity and grace as we entered the lobby of the Hostal de la Gavina. I am truly lost as to how to properly describe the beauty of this hotel and its picturesque location. The public and private rooms of the hotel all combine perfectly maintained antique furniture, rugs and tapestries while complementing these with modern updated amenities. It is easy to feel just like Elizabeth Taylor, a famed frequent guest, as you enjoy a drink in the paneled bar or front patio, breakfast in beautiful dining room or its adjacent patio, lunch beside or at the pool overlooking the sea below, walk the 2km paved path from the hotel along the sea to a cove at the end of the resort line. We stayed for three nights in two rooms - one a classic with terrace overlooking the breakfast patio and the other a sea view room overlooking the beach. Both had wonderful closet space and bathrooms with showers and tubs. The beds are very comfortable with contemporary mattresses/pillows and antique frames. The breakfast is a lovely buffet that includes a custom omelette bar. The staff are kind and helpful at every point. Our 20-something daughters used the spa and gym, since it was raining one afternoon and found both great. Easy walk down to the wide beach, which has a variety of rentals if you are interested. The hotel is well situated for day trips to Girona or other nearby beaches. We visited Tossa and Llafranc and were so happy we stayed at the Gavina with the Sant Pol beach below and hidden coves along the path. The town was quiet and not a party hipster scene, but we enjoyed that. Absolutely heavenly stay.
