Before you discount this review because other reviews are good, I urge you to take a look at my review history. I have written almost four hundred reviews on Trip Advisor, and almost never rate anything as one star. This hotel may work for some, but the way we were treated should make you think twice about booking this hotel. When we arrived, in mid-October, 2024, we were given a room that was at 24 degrees Celsius, which is over 75 degrees Fahrenheit. I immediately tried to lower the temperature, but the thermostat was off. When I asked the staff about this I was told that the air conditioning was turned off for the season a few days before our arrival. They said they had a room in another building, where the air conditioning was still operational, but they refused to move us to that room because it was a higher priced room. I explained that I sleep with a bipap full-face mask, and need the room to be cool, but they did not care. They did move us to a room on the other side of the hotel, that was slightly cooler. (They said it was 21 degrees Celsius, and it may have been initially, but when I checked later it was 22 degrees, and it was that temperature when my wife and I woke up the next morning. (Please see photos.) They also provided a fan, but the fan was noisy, and made it difficult for us to sleep. The room was also humid. The fan basically blew hot, muggy air around, made noise, but provided little relief. I am really annoyed because there was no good reason for them to not just move us to the building that had air conditioning still operational. It's not as if we had planned this as a way to get a better room at a bargain. We obviously could not have known that they planned to shut down their air conditioning a few days before we were to arrive, or that the weather would be hot and muggy. Neither my wife nor I got a good night's sleep. Additionally, while they do offer an advertised shuttle service to San Giminagno, the times the shuttle runs are not convenient to making the most of one's time visiting the area. Please take a look at the photo of the shuttle times. You will see that there is no way to enjoy an evening or even dinner in San Giminagno, since the last shuttle back to the hotel leaves at 17:20. (5:20 PM.) If I were a skeptic, I'd say that could be by design, to encourage guests to dine at the Hotel Sovestro's restaurant, instead of enjoying an evening in town. On a positive note, the breakfast options were quite extensive, and some of the offerings were very tasty. We will definitely not be returning to Hotel Sovestro, and I would urge you not to book a stay here.

Perfect location to relax and visit San Gimignano. Well maintained grounds with pool and terrasse. Very good breakfast. Walking distance from the center of San Gimignano but the hotel provides a free shuttle service if you do not want to walk uphill. Very attentive staff.

We were lucky enough to stay for 4 nights at the end of August. What a find, our third trip to San Gimignano although we loved the other places we’ve stayed this hotel has gone straight to No.1 It is a little out of town but don’t let that put you off, we’d never walked down the Via Vecchia on previous trips. … wow ! What a photo opportunity of San Gimignano. The hotel provides a shuttle, a quick 5 min drive up to the town, as most have mentioned in other reviews it is easier to walk back.. the via Vecchia is a great Road / path to walk with photo opportunities along the way, need a torch in the evenings but very little traffic and feels safe. The Hotel, I echo the reviews that it is immaculate, the maids clean everyday, rooms and all parts of the hotel until early afternoon. Also groundsman and pool man. All the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, this family owned hotel has got the right balance of a medium size hotel whilst maintaining a welcoming, personal service. Restaurant- we’re lucky to visit Italy at least once a year, in 15 years this is the best breakfast in Italy, buffet is plentiful, the best coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. I’m gluten free and didn’t miss out, they make their own gluten free bread rolls which were the best I’ve tasted. We ate in the restaurant one night, delicious home cooked Tuscan cuisine, again my gluten free needs were accommodated without question. The grounds, a little mini oasis amongst the olive and cypress trees, two lovely pool areas. We had room 55 on the countryside side of the hotel and it was stunning come rain or shine. Finally we arranged through the hotel for my husband to have a guided cycle ride through Chianti with ex professional cyclist, Daniele Righi. If you’re a keen cyclist book him, my husband loved it, best experience. When we’re next in San Gimignano we will be booking Hotel Sovestro.

Having waited since before lockdown to experience Tuscany, we were not disappointed with our chosen hotel. Hotel Sovestro is a hidden gem and one we can't wait to return to. We had a magical 10 days. Even before we arrived we knew we had made a good choice as response to emails was prompt and made us feel really looked after. On arrival and throughout our holiday, every member of staff was extremely friendly and eager to please; nothing was too much of a problem and we were always greeted with a warm 'Buongiorno!' What we loved: ...the hotel's calm and relaxing atmosphere. There is a gentle hum of busyness throughout the day with quiet chatter (in lots of different languages) and the chinking of glasses - but nothing to disturb our peace. ...the hotel's facilities, they are spot-on. The two pools have different features that give you the impression that you are in two different hotels. The poolside bar/snacks service was perfect and always delivered with a smile. The secure car park is large so we never struggled to park the car. The free shuttle bus was great - with 5 runs a day, (really helpful when faced with a hill in the heat!) ... Ristorante da Pode. We ate in the restaurant twice and were so impressed with our meals - all home-cooked Tuscan food that was perfectly presented and - again - served with a smile. We particularly loved the 'sheep's cheese pudding' and the tomato bruschetta. I think we could easily eaten there every night if we hadn't wanted to also eat out in neighbouring towns. A wonderful touch came on our 25th Wedding Anniversary, when the hotel staff gave us a treat with our meal. A lovely surprise. ...our room, it was a triple with patio, (me, my husband and our 16 year old). It was plenty big enough as the patio gave us extra space. The beds were so comfy, with crisp white linen and perfect pillows. The air-conditioning was a dream as temperatures reached 34 degrees outside. We hadn't expected a fridge and safe but both were welcome additions! ...the hotel's breakfast! What can we say! All carefully prepared with a wide variety of options from scrambled egg to hams & cheeses, from fruit and muesli to freshly baked pasties and cakes. Not forgetting the freshly squeezed orange juice (oh how we are missing it!) and coffee that hit the spot. It was a highlight of our day to sit on the sunny terrace in the morning, planning our trips whilst filling our tummies. Just perfect. ...the hotel is immaculately kept. All areas of the hotel are spotless without any signs of wear and tear. The Failli family and their team obviously work very hard to maintain high standards for their guests. ... the hotel's location. Wow. San Gimignano is now a firm favourite, with its tall towers and rustic squares. Unforgettable. Climb the Torre Grossa - what a view!
