Exceptional. This is the best place to stay in the region. Villa Dreams was my home base for exploring Efes (Ephesus), the house of Mary, the temple of Artemis, and more. Booking online, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I arrived via train from the Izmir airport and was met at the station by the owner, who drove me to the hotel personally. I was offered my choice of rooms and chose one at the top of the house with a balcony with a breathtaking view, including the town, the castle, olive farms, and more. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and quiet (and excellent water pressure in the shower, a pleasant and unexpected bonus) and the service was beyond attentive. Drinks are available onsite and any sort of food you’d like can be arranged. It was lovely to relax on the large, shared terrace overlooking the pool, under a ceiling of grape vines. The breakfast offered is one of the best in Türkiye, and includes homemade spreads, family recipes, and home-grown and home-preserved olives. Everything is delicious and, of course, the portions are generous. In exploring the sights in the region, the Villa Dreams arranged for a driver for the day as I had chosen not to rent a car. The driver was just as courteous, professional, and excellent as the hotel. Selcuk and Villa Dreams are a nice “home base” to explore the region. In addition to the really great Ephesus museum, the town’s orange-tree-lined streets have excellent restaurants and several markets for groceries or sundries. Walking through the town, I was welcomed to sit with some of the older men playing okey and checkers, which was a special experience. Selcuk is an easy ride to nearby Kuşadası, where I took a short ferry ride to the Greek island of Samos for a day, and it is very near to the charming town of Sirince. Villa Dreams is something special, from its hilltop location to its personal and attentive service. It is a place I hope to return to, and I can’t recommend it enough.
