Firstly the positive. Most of the staff were exceptional. All but a couple were very friendly and went out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The spa facility was very good. Enjoyed a massage and other treatments and certainly got value for money. The cocktails were basic, but very enjoyable. Now I’m struggling, so on to the not so great…. Food quality was average. Reasonable variety but poor quality ingredients. Various renovations were ongoing including the pool, which was out of action. The use of the sister hotel’s pool was available. The room I had, had a number of issues. The air conditioning unit only blew out warm out, whatever setting was used. I was told at the reception desk, that it was only for use in summer, despite temperatures hovering in the low 20s. The mini-fridge didn’t work. In fairness, it was replaced quickly, but by another fridge that was highly ineffective. A paper fan would’ve cooled things just as quickly. As a solo traveller, I only had one door key card, which also doubled up as the room’s electric power key. Leaving the room, meant removing the card from the power slot and thus the ineffective fridge became even worse, as it switched off. The furniture was very jaded (wonky drawers, chairs with legs about to come off etc). The bathroom needed new taps, better drainage, an improved design to stop the use of the shower creating a flood. The balcony sliding door wouldn’t lock, fortunately the room was only invaded by a rare mosquito. One power socket available. A welcoming kettle and 2 mugs on a tray, which had one sachet of fruit tea and nothing else. The all-inclusive snacks were a complete joke. They were only made available from 2.30pm until 5pm, and even then, the choice was a few nibbles brought out on a trolley. No ice creams, ice lollies, burgers, chips. None of that. There may have been a better selection at the neighbouring pool, however I didn’t find out. How this hotel has achieved a 4 star rating is beyond me. Self-rated? Sousse itself is incredibly run down. The best buildings are the hotels and restaurants. The rest looked half built, bombed out or just wasteland. So little to do. I thought I’d give Tunisia a try. I certainly won’t return.
