TL;DR: The Hilton Garden Inn in South Padre Island exceeded expectations with excellent, friendly staff and well-maintained facilities. The only minor issue was with the beach chair attendant. Highlights include clean rooms, great pool area, reasonably priced food, and a prime beachfront location. Common concerns about towels, noise, and beach access were unfounded, though Hilton status benefits were minimal. Resort experience without any resort fees! Overall, a 5/5 experience. Full review: We visit South Padre Island every year and usually rent a condo in the same building through a peer-to-peer rental marketplace. This year, our originally scheduled trip got postponed due to weather, so we decided to try the Hilton Garden Inn, South Padre Island, TX. After five days and four nights, we have ditched our rental plans for next summer and will be coming back to the Hilton. I'll go into all the details, but the star of the show was the staff and how well they were staffed. Everyone from the front desk to housekeeping, maintenance, restaurant, and bar staff was excellent. There was never a poor attitude, sign of frustration, or indication of "I'm just here for the paycheck." Everyone was always willing to help. The only negative experience I had was with the beach chair attendant, but I think he is a vendor, not an employee. The property had plenty of staff to keep it looking and feeling like a vacation resort. For example, no matter how late or early it was, the front desk was always staffed with a professional. They had in-house maintenance that did more than just basic stuff. One night, two of the three elevators were out of order. I was concerned that we might be inconvenienced the entire following day. Nope. They were fixed and ready by the time I woke up and used them at 7:30 AM. The property itself was fantastic. The immaculate marble lobby had plenty of well-kept, practical furniture to hang out with your laptop and coffee. The restaurant, although a chain (On The Border), felt unique. The bar was full in the evenings, and they had plenty of breakfast options (not typical for OTB). Speaking of the bars and restaurants, they were very reasonably priced! Breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes) was $12.99. At the beach bar (Barry's), grilled cheese and fries for my kids was $5, and it wasn't small! A hamburger and fries for me was $8. We stayed in a two-queen junior suite with a partial ocean view balcony on the fourth floor (415) overlooking the pool. The rooms were tastefully remodeled in neutral tones with faux hardwood floor tiles. The bathroom was perfect, with ample storage on the vanity and much-needed shelves in the shower. The rooms were impeccably cleaned. I saw housekeeping cleaning a room after the prior guests had checked out, and they had pulled furniture away from the walls and were vacuuming behind it to ensure the room was free of any sand or dust. If you are on a low floor, your view of the beach will be obstructed by Bar
