The reception is super nice and helpful. Room is too old and the bed is not comfortable. The view is nice but I don’t like the breakfast. The service people at breakfast area is rude, and breads & foods are not 5 star hotel level

Das Hotel Next in Funchal auf Madeira überzeugt durch seine ausgezeichnete Lage direkt am Wasser. Die Zimmer, obwohl geräumig, neigen dazu, aufgrund ihrer Dunkelheit eine etwas gedämpfte Atmosphäre zu schaffen. Trotzdem punktet das Hotel mit komfortablen Betten, moderner Einrichtung und ansprechenden Badezimmern. Das Frühstück, serviert in einer Art Kantine, weist eine begrenzte Auswahl auf und die Qualität könnte verbessert werden. Ein Highlight ist jedoch der Beach Club am Wasser, der, obwohl ohne Strand, mit einem Pool und direktem Zugang zum Meer über einen Steg positiv hervorsticht.

Morden, nice and comfy hotel with modern facilities. The location was convenient as it wasn’t far from Funchal by public transport or walk. Within the area, it had variety of options to eat out, exercise and but something essential near by. Breakfast was nice and fresh and well organised. Would come back again if needed.

Nice entertainer couple! Good dancers! Excellent teachers having lovely dancing skills! Also a great team with activities for children. Concerning the hotel, it is a nice place to stay on 31st december and choose the opportunity to view the fireworks show in Madeira Island!

The hotel is old, but everything looks nice and shabby. A lot of stairs to the sea, but also there is elevator. Normal breakfast, a lot of pastry, but for my tasty could be more fresh vegetables, avocado and etc.. Nice, big rooms with cozy doors lile from movie lord of the ring.

This is a very good hotel and we would stay here again. WET AREA Indoor pool This is a great addition to the hotel and is kept at a perfect temperature with jets. It is semi-indoor so great on overcast days. Never too busy. The highlight of our stay. Outdoor pool Quite cool, but when complimented with the indoor pool, this is fine. It's a bit shallow but I imagine this is just how the hotel is built. Never too busy. Sunbeds More than enough, very comfy and clean. No need to reserve/scramble. Spa Massages available at a good price. Sauna and steam room free of charge, although the hotel doesn't advertise this very well. Snack bar Nice sandwiches, if a little overpriced. Could do with more variety of food. Great selection of drinks/cocktails as reasonable prices. Seems a bit silly that you can't pay by card. BREAKFAST A fantastic variety of tasty food; cooked, continental, cereals and pancakes. Lots of fresh fruit. We had one negative experience with a rude waiter; we were trying to take a banana and some bread each, as we knew we would be missing the breakfast (that we had paid for) the following day, due to an early hike. Before we could explain this, we were berated at length in front of half of the restaurant, even after apologising. This was unnecessarily embarrassing and marred our first day. Granted, we should have double checked the rules beforehand (we have stayed in places where this is allowed, in moderation), but, in our view, there was no need for such a public display. BUFFET We only had this once, but we felt that, for 30 euros, it was a bit underwhelming and drinks should have been included. STAFF Apart from the one exception above, we felt all the staff were a credit to the hotel, and very friendly and helpful. A special shout-out to Caterina and one barman's name whose name we regrettably didn't catch. LOCATION Buses to Funchal just outside. Close to supermarket and restaurants. Nice park and restaurant next door. ROOMS Very clean, spacious and good facilities. A bit dark at times. Good aircon. Free safe for valuables. TIPS - Rent a car with Auto Rent A Car - great service and friendly staff - Luggage room available free of charge - If hiking to Pico Ruivo, you really don't need a guide. The route is clear and is almost always busy. GetToHikes bus transfers are recommended and stop near the hotel.

This hotel was excellent. There are 1 and 2 star reviews here on TA - I do not recognise the picture in these reviews - all I can say is that the more spelling mistakes I see in a review, the less I value it. (I mean - you expect the hotel to be so perfect in every respect, the least you could do is exercise the same level of care and attention in your review. How can you expect high standards elsewhere when you don't hold yourself to the same level?) From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. The check-in was very simple and efficient. We arrived quite late, and they'd thought to have a tray of cold food sent up to our room for us. Thank you! There is an underground car-park free for guests (useful with a hire car) and whilst we were there it was not too busy at any point. The Wifi is easy to connect to and pretty fast. It did tend to drop out quite a bit when in the main bar area, but otherwise it was problem-free. The pools and areas are excellent - perhaps it would be nice to have one of the outdoor pools slightly heated - they could be cold. The little gym is fine - like most hotel gyms its not exactly a full health-club, but it allows you to keep up most of your workout routine. Restaurants - really good. The buffet for breakfast and evening meal was excellent - very well presented, maintained, and huge choice. That includes for vegetarians, with the slight caveat that it would have been nice to have vegetarian hot main meals for dinner, although with the very wide salad range, no-one is short of choice. The three special restaurants (Madeiran, Italian, and Moroccan) were also great, and although you have to book in advance, there's no limitation on how many times you can go. Vegetarians here generally have to ask, but then there are plenty of options. The staff in all the restaurants were particularly friendly and good at what they do. The room was nice, and comfortable. We had a double room with an extra bed (to make it a family room) - perhaps it was a little small for that given that it is a 5-star, but it was by no means cramped and if you were just a couple in that, then you'd be fine. The room housekeeping was good. A small criticism is that although there was a leaflet saying that soft drinks in the minibar would be replaced (for free) this wasn't done - I don't know if we needed to specifically ask. It wasn't a problem for us (or we would have asked) but it would be nice to have had that happen automatically. Point of criticism - we seemed to spend a little longer waiting for lifts than would be ideal - there seemed to be one lift out of operation although no signage to that effect, and the lifts were a little under-sized - quite cramped when more than three people were in. In many ways the experience of a hotel like this can be affected by the number of people, and while we were here, it didn't seem overly full - perfect for us but may not always be like that. Отличный большой отель. Много немецких пенсионеров. Очень хорошее местоположение - на берегу океана, рядом большой торговый центр Форум и пляж Формоза. На 1 или 2 автобусе дорога до центра Фуншала занимает 12 минут. Завтраки очень разнообразные, но очереди за кофе после 8 утра. Проходят на этаже с потрясающим видом на океан, можно сидеть на улице. Не понравились бассейны - с красивым видом, но неглубокие, везде воды по пояс. Только для детей. Кондиционер работает только на охлаждение - в номере было холодно.

Hotel in a good location, bus stop to and from Funchal right outside the hotel and costs €1.95 flat fee each way. This takes you further into Funchal than the hotel shuttle bus, which leaves you on the outskirts for those with any walking issues. But it’s a flat walk and free. It is a standard coach and leaves only twice a day, morning and late afternoon. There is a very good supermarket opposite and a shopping mall 10-minute walk up the road. The hotel over all is tired and dated and, in some areas, grubby. The main reception is clean and tidy and well presented. Our room was 623, a suite which we upgraded to. It had a kitchen area with a microwave and a large fridge. Two mugs and a kettle. No spoons or plates. We had to take a spoon from the restaurant along with top up tea supplies as nothing was refreshed daily. There was a bottle of water on our arrival, but you had to take this to the restaurant and refill it yourself throughout the stay. The room lounge area had an upright chair and a sofa bed, coffee table and a sideboard with a TV on. Seats were very uncomfortable. Room was very dark, and you needed the light on all the time. Balcony was facing west and never caught any sunshine or housekeeping eye as it was dusty and had pigeon muck around the edge which was never cleaned off throughout our stay. Bedroom was comfortable and functional with enough storage for two people although we did ask for more hangers as four per person was not enough for a 9 day stay. Bathroom was quite frankly worn out and in desperate need of a refurb. The grab rail on the bath was hanging loose, the hot tap on one of the sinks just dribbled out. The shower head needed decaling and repair. All of which we told the maintenance man when he came to fix the door which must have been requested by a former guest, but he said we needed to report to reception. Housekeeping must have seen these issues when they cleaned every day, but it is our job as the holiday makers to take time out to report it. The towels - they were thin and rough and on occasions we were left with one fluffy bath towel. I had better ones to dry my dogs off with. The main restaurant: A previous review by Nyree O sums it up perfectly! We did not starve but it could be SO much better and definitely NOT a 5-star experience or cooked by a qualified chef. Again, the restaurant furniture was in desperate need of an upgrade. The chairs were badly stained, and some the fabric was fraying. The live music at breakfast should be the icing on the cake but was more like polishing a turd. Although very pleasant was unnecessary. Spend the money on replacing the towels instead. Perhaps it was a distraction technique. The alcohol was dreadful, this is where the supermarket across the road came in very handy. A further review stated how bad it was, and the hotel manager replied stating that the vodka was Smirnoff. It most definitely was NOT. We stayed here over Christmas and paid a premium p
