We booked for 2 nights using an app. When booking two nights straight, it will be more expensive than booking two nights seperately. The first night, the app suggested a disability room. I told the lady at the front desk if that room is needed for someone in need I don't mind changing. The room has a little more space than the 2nd room we had, but overall I would say much cleaner...with a funny smell. The second room, as soon as you get in, it smelled humid and mold; there were mold on the ceiling of the bathroom and all around the tub. Two of the towels were undone as if they were already used, and only has 1 set of towel for a 2 person staying. There were squashed bugs on the wall. On the bed, it seemed like someone stepped on it with their shoes on. (See pictures) All the staffs are very nice. I asked for extra towels and pillow cases and the lady at the front desk brought them to our room.

The check-in staff was very accommodating and friendly. The room was much better than expected. The house staff were very friendly. In-All a very pleasant experience. We had stayed at this hotel ”several” years ( maybe even decade ) ago and had not the most favourable memory. We booked this hotel because of location as we were meeting people coming off the NFLD ferry. However, on arrival any less than favourable feelings were quickly brushed aside. The check-in staff were very friendly. The hotel must have had a major face lift since the previous stay. Everything was clean, well maintained and friendly. There was NOTHING negative - all-in-all a very pleasant stay. We even extended our stay for a second night.

Running a motel in Cape Breton is hard. Kelly’s view is an updated vintage Maritime motel . It was sourced for us by a family member for the August long weekend, not far in advance, when there was little availability. Therefore, if it had turned out to be terrible, it would have been chalked up to ‘experience’. Check in was quick, easy and friendly around 10 pm. They’re were expecting one more traveler. I’m guessing I met Ron, but I don’t know. Room#7 was fine. It was clean, had two queen sized beds, and did not have a musty smell. The TV worked well and picture quality was excellent. The bathroom has had no faults so far. Yes, it’s on a highway. That’s a plus when you are traveling in the dark! I hear cars and trucks passing by, but it’s not city noise. No, it does not have sir conditioning. North America and the world are experiencing a heat wave of unprecedented proportions and this Cape Breton motel does not need AC. At least we did not last night! It was fine! My bed was fine . Firm, but I slept well. Linens were clean, fresh, and while not like hotel linen in some Hilton’s etc, they were fine. Reading responses from Audrey to some reviews, I was pleased to hear they used the sun to dry their linen. That’s hard work! So, first impressions were great, and I would definitely stay here again.

I'd like to be clear now, that the hearthstone doesn' get a bad review from me. Our room and stay has been pleasant and nice and the staff has been friendly and helpful. The one star (which should be none) goes to the restaurant located within, which is conveniently for them not listed on Yelp. The ”ISLA KUSINA International Cuisine” or ”The Kusina” is severely overpriced for the food and undersized portions you get. My son and I went in for dinner last night, He ordered a poutine with a side option of chicken tenders which was 8$ plus 4$ for the chicken tenders add on. I ordered Pasta linguini with bacon and garlic bread which was 18$ + 2 soft drinks. HERE IS WHAT WE GOT: My son got a medicore poutine served in a cereal bowl and those 4$ chicken tender add ons? They were only 2 crappy frozen chicken fingers right out of a box. My Pasta ALSO came in a cereal bowl, there was no bacon and the garlic bread was a puny stale chunk of buttered bread that was re-heated in a microwave. I also ordered a half lb of wings and in return I got 5 pitiful wings that had barely any meat on them. After taxes our meal came to almost 60$. Today the only reason we came in again for breakfast was that the Hearthstones website and all its affiliated booking sites said that breakfast is included free in your stay. (It's not) and we didnt find that out until we were ready to sit down and eat. We got the ”guest deal” that was advertised as an ”all included $7.99 breakfast” (It wasnt.) WHAT WE GOT: My son got a puny undercooked pancake (which he said had a bad texture and taste, so he couldnt even eat it) and undercooked potatoes, with a puny portion of scrambled eggs and I had to pay $2.99 extra for him to only get 2 pathetic slices of bacon. My order was listed as toast, eggs, (notice that eggs is plural) 2 sides of meat, and hashbrowns. I GOT: 1 slice of toast (that wasnt toasted, it was like someone stuck it in an arm pit.) 1 egg (not eggs) 1 slice of bacon, 1 breakfast sausage, and the same undercooked potatoes. I'd also like to point out that although advertised as included, We were charged extra for a small orange juice and a watered down coffee. When we were finished our ”free breakfast” came to 25$. I'm not happy whatsoever and now my son is sick in bed in our room from the undercooked food.

Always enjoy staying here. Friendly staff, excellent breakfast menu. Close to all anything may need. Mayflower mall only a few km away. Get a room with harbour view, though no cruise ships in March. Has gym, pool, meeting rooms for all your needs. *May be time to start upgrades. Bathroom looks old. I noted in 2020 that the lamp plugs hardly hold your cord in place. Need new.
