Grand Hotel Trento

We stayed here for 2 nights in October 2024 in room 310. The hotel is grand looking in lobby and bar and the circular stairwell is impressive. Our view was mountains over the buildings next door. Our room had a double bed which was lower than I like and a firm mattress. There was a single plug on each side of the bed (no USB). There was also a weird light control panel next to each bed. The light switches did not match the instruction card layout. The room was big and clean. There were no provided robes or slipper or complimentary water bottles. The room came with a pants presser attached to the wall. This was unique so I tested it and it worked. The air conditioning was off for the season, but the windows opened to cool the room. There was no towel warmer. The tub in the shower was narrow and the grab bar in the shower was a little wobbly. There was mildew in the tile grout and the shelf under the bathroom sink was rotting. Breakfast was my biggest complaint about this property. This large property had a lot of guests, and the breakfast staff was not able to handle the crowd. The 2 coffee machines often had long lines. Serving spoons for eggs were not available. Batter for the waffles was not brought out until 20 minutes after I had to ask for it and then the syrup dispenser was empty. There were moldy oranges available for consumption. The staff was not able to clear plates due to the crowds. One plus for this property and perhaps all properties in Trento, was the free Trento card, allowing entry to many museums and free public transportation on local busses and the regional trains.

Large towels, Decaffeinated Espresso, Very good breakfast, Nice hotel room, Drawers are available, 3 plugs in the bedroom and 1 20VA plug in the bathroom. No USB power jacks, no tissues, OK toilet paper. A big negative was the Wi-Fi blocked the use of VPN (Virtual Private Networks) so I was not able to access US sites and If I used it, I could not tell who was seeing my work. I chose not to use it.

Nice hotel, a little old fashioned for my taste, the location was perfect. Nice reception and lounge. Room: Decent size, however, the bed really needs a mattress. For a tall guy, the bed was nearly on the floor, and sadly, I came home with a bad back. It does not need the fancy gadgets for aircon/lights etc. Breakfast: Squeezed into such a small area and not enough staff at breakfast. The breakfast was mediocre at best. The selection was really quite bland and not great quality. The fresh peaches needed about another week to ripen. The meats and cheeses were nothing special, (I was thinking catering standard). No apple juice, and the orange juice was just awful, not sure what they did to that. No bacon one day, no eggs the next. They really do have only one working coffee machine for the entire hotel. Note that the rooms do NOT have tea/coffee making facilities, so a very long wait at breakfast time. Dinner: Truly awful service, and the food was not good at all. I also saw that they had the remains of the dinner at breakfast the next day.

Couldn't be more convenient to train and bus stations & Centro Storico. Easy walk to both a cable car over the river to suburban Sardagna (nothing there but worth a half hour uphill meandering stroll once you get off the cable car) or the free castle gardens. Hotel overlooks the green Piazza Dante and is near many restaurants in the old town to which it is directly adjacent. Breakfast is ample, rooms are air-conditioned! (August can be sunny & hot, & we were grateful for the a/c.)
