This hotel is a bit further from city center and it is at least a 20-minute walk to the Foggy Bottom metro stop. Something to consider if you need to get around DC via metro. Nonetheless, the area has various food options nearby. The hotel is small and dated. From the rooms to furniture around the hotel, you can tell it hasn't been updated in years. I arrived and the front desk woman was on the phone and went into the back room to talk. I stood waiting at an empty desk for some time. Eventually she came out to check me in. They seemed short staffed as she was checking me in, answering calls, baking cookies, making popcorn, etc. They had a water jug with lemons in the lobby that was almost empty, and I asked if there was more water. She told me she gave me a water bottle when I checked in. True, but I was wondering about the lemon water. Probably helpful if they had one more person at the desk. Anyway, if you get lucky enough to be there when someone is baking be sure to grab the hot chocolate chip cookies. I got upgraded to a huge 2-bedroom apt style room with a full kitchen. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need for an extended stay. The rooms are cleaned every other day unless you make a request. Wifi is a bit slow. Bathroom has big bottles of shower gel, shampoo, & conditioner attached to the wall for your use. The vanity area had small bars of soap and even mini bottles of lotion (rare to find these days) and a makeup remover wipe. Breakfast was decent with Chobani plain greek yogurt, fresh oatmeal with various toppings to add, waffle bar, hot foods, milk cartons for kids, and coffee. Overall, an okay stay. Just felt far from the city and old hotel feeling.

If you want to skip a big headache, avoid this hotel. Book one of the many others within walking distance. Our family had a terrible experience here - and while I can’t speak to the experiences of others, the number of angry and frustrated guests we encountered in the lobby tells me that this is the norm. We were traveling with three teenagers on this road trip to DC, so it was important for us to book a suite with a separate bedroom. If you’ve ever traveled with teenagers, then you know that personal space in your downtime is essential for keeping the peace. When I was in line to check in, the woman at the front desk was in the middle of a phone call where she was telling a disappointed guest that there were no suites available. I smirked a bit, happy that I had planned ahead… As I checked in, though, I was told that due to “pipe issues” they could not fulfill our reservation. Instead, we were bumped down to a studio room - a tiny box of a room. This was disappointing for a few reasons. First, the line about pipe issues was an obvious lie to cover for their own booking mistake. Second, the room they put us in, while it technically slept 5, was a powder keg of teen angst for the four nights we stayed. When I told the lady at the front desk how upset I was, she could offer little more than a shrug. Room cleaning was promised every other day of our stay - but I can report that this was another falsehood. We had the room cleaned after our first night, but never again. Each day we had to go to the front desk to ask for new towels, toilet paper, trash pick-up, etc. And while at the front desk dealing with those minor issues, I saw plenty of frustrated families sitting in the lobby well after 4pm waiting for a room to be cleaned so they could check in. I tell ya - this was disappointing all around. After 10 hours on the road, we just wanted a nice clean place to stay. In spite of our planning and booking, we were shoved in a small room and forgotten about. I was promised at check-in that when a suite became available we would be alerted - but not one other person at the front desk seemed to have any idea what I was talking about. Skip this place. I wish we had booked with someone else. Anyone else. They’ve put a bitter fringe on this family trip, and I will not be booking with Residence Inn or Marriott again.

I have stayed at this hotel three times, So I feel like I can confidently say this hotel is off their game. I am a dedicated Marriott customer, but this is not their best hotel. Every time I stay here, I feel like their staff is struggling a little. Here are some examples. Housekeeping didn’t fill up the soap dispenser in our bathroom, so my husband went down to ask for some. They gave him a small bottle and said they would have housekeeping fill it in the morning. Fast forward to 6 AM the next morning someone is frantically banging and yelling on our door. We thought there was an emergency. my husband nicely said could you come back later and the person And started banging more. Given that They were probably waking up the entire hall and had already woken up my family. My husband open the door and she handed him a bag of soap. No one could go back to sleep, and we were tired for the rest of the day. Another example, we could find the blow dryer in our room and I called down to ask where it might be, the guy said he would send one up. A few hours later, we had not received a blow dryer. So I called back and told them, they apologized and said someone would be right up. A few minutes later, someone brought Me an iron— Not a blow dryer. They did run back down and get me one. They have washing machines, but they only take quarters. The front desk never had quarters nor could they tell you where to get them. The room was clean and comfortable. And the The Valets were amazing considering how hot it was. However, I will avoid this hotel whenever possible. The people who worked at the restaurant were also fantastic..

Excellent location, a block and a half from the metro, and a long but doable walk to the National Mall. Restaurants and grocery stores close by. It's an older building but looks nice and welcoming. The only problem was that only one elevator was working so it was slow going and we took the stairs most of the time. They had to wait for parts, so nothing they could do about it. Room and everything in it was clean and comfortable. The kitchenette had all necessary stuff and a full size fridge. Only the sofa bed was not very comfortable. You could feel the coils a bit, but we managed to get a full night sleep every night. Breakfast was excellent, good variety of foods although pretty much the same every day. Breads and pastries were varied and there was plenty of everything. The attendants were quick to pick up and clean, and very friendly. My only objection is that they should have enough staff to have the rooms completely ready for all guests. We found out that if you're using the sofa bed, they don't get it ready for you, you have to do it yourself. That's my reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Everyone, from front desk to housekeeping, was very friendly and helpful. They went the extra mile to make you feel acknowledged and appreciated for staying at their property. If I ever go back to DC, I would definitely stay at this hotel.
