The Granby Hotel

Been here a few times over the yrs , seen it change personnel in that time ! More often than not quite a busy place , live music, good beers & decent food! However the proprietors need to know how to communicate with its customers & not act like them their selves are customers its not a good look ! I’d also add that both land lady & partner learn how to string a sentence together and actually engage with people who try to raise a conversation with them ! Being shy in their position isn’t recommended! Shame good pub !

Food was ok staff was pleasant room was not good needs a lot of TLC room showed signs of damp bed was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept on. Came back with more aches and pains than I went with. The staff were lovely but more needs to be done with the rooms.

Room was okay, but only that. The room was clean and tidy, however the bed was very creaky, not ideal if you were planning to have a romantic weekend!! Shower wasn’t the most powerful and the shower head was fixed in position with a cable tie, so no adjustment. On a positive note, the pub food was good and the Theakston ales on the bar are very well kept

Friendly easy check in, purchased scratch card from accommodation for £2 for 2 days and parked outside over the road, food lovely and low cost, very central location.

We booked up at the Granby for my birthday weekend. What an amazing experience we had from start to finish. When we arrived we were met by pleasant staff who helped us with the car parking, luckily we were in the right area so 2 seconds walk from car to the hotel. As we had arrived early we werent expecting to check in, but we told the rooms were ready so were taken up to the room (We had the flat) and helped by one member of staff with our case. Upon going into the flat, we were “wowed” at this, it was lovely, clean and very fresh, it was also very homely, once we had unpacked in our room, we went downstairs to have a drink and await the rest of our party, once who had a separate double room in the hotel. The bar itself again was very clean, and all the staff we lovely and welcoming. Once all our party had arrived we had a neb of the separate room, again this was up to a very high standard, very clean and fresh and also very bright. Staff very helpful when we asked for a fan for the room, was no effort at all to provide this. We had a meal in the pub which was lovely, all homemade/home cooked and would highly recommend. All very reasonably priced to. The beds were lovely and comfortable, very good sized to so you weren't on top of each other. Kitchen located in the flat was very handy to allow you to have tea/coffee and also cold drinks for the mornings. All in all we will be looking to use this hotel in the near future, but would also HIGHLY recommend to anyone who is going to Whitby.

We stay in Whitby several times a year and decided to give the Granby a go on this visit. The location is brilliant and the price similar to other pub accommodation in the area. The lady who showed us to our room was unfriendly and unwelcoming, which wasn't a good start. Staff also never said hello when we were coming in and out of the building during our stay which was a shame. We stayed in Room 1. On our way up the stairs we noticed immediately that there was a smell of old food and damp. Once we got into our room, the smell got worse and we discovered that the bathroom stunk of drains. The bathroom door handle and loo roll holder were hanging off and the tiny fan in the shower was caked with dust, creating a fire hazard if the motor overheats. The shower pressure was very low and the windows rickety - we had to open them wide for the smell and they didn't look well fitted and sturdy at all. The mattress was heavily stained too - the mattress topper just wouldn't stay on properly which is how I found this out. The blinds fitted directly to the windows themselves, which meant that the room was lovely and dark - however, this also meant that we couldn't leave a window open overnight for the smell as it was far too bright from about 4am. The Granby is on quite a busy street opposite other businesses, so it also gets noisy from about 6am. We definitely wouldn't stay here again. We usually stay at The Endeavour which is the same price as the Granby and much better accommodation.

So it was a bit mixed. We stayed one night in room 1 at a cost of £81. Soma good price. However we were a bit nervous on arrival as the pub signs were all hanging off. Check in was smooth and we were shown our room. It looks like they have tried to make it look pleasant but attention to detail is severely lacking. Paint all over the wallpaper. The toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall. The door handle was also loose. The bed was clean but the room hadn’t been cleaned well. There were still cup marks on the bedside table from the previous guests. The food down in the pub looked amazing but every time we returned or walked past the chef was hanging outside smoking all the time. So food was a no go. Probably wouldn’t return.

We all enjoyed our food. Home-made lasagna and home-made burger with cheese and bacon. Really good food, well cooked and presented and good sized portions. A great find in Whitby. The selection of beers is good too - enjoyed the Leeds IPA. We're going back for a breakfast.

We were informed on arrival please order asap as a big party coming in soon, Wife had Pie and seemed to enjoy it, I had Beef Sandwich with was was termed as a Generous helping of Chips, Beg to differ on this as very few Chips on smaller plate ,than my wife had, Did mention to the Waitress but just a smile and no response,Wont be rushing back which is a shame really as quite local to us
