2024 Amsterdam Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Amsterdam is a beautiful city carved by numerous canals and waterways. The "Venice of the North" is a "Kingdom of Museums" full of European art. It is also vibrant city perfectly combining spicy temptations with ultra-sweet freedom. Amsterdam is famous throughout the world for its openness and culture. No matter how strangely wild and alternative something is, it can probably be found here, art or otherwise. The famous legal red light district can answer all the questions you may have had about the place. Taking a sightseeing tour of Amsterdam by boat is a unique and charming experience. However, strolling through the streets of the city, the narrow buildings and windows tell the story of a thousand years of history.

Amsterdam owns rows of mysterious houses, as if I had wandered into a world of toys.
Amsterdam has canals flowing in many places, and the view of the city from the bridge is very beautiful and Dutch, and bicycles blended into the scenery.
Also, the library inside the Rijksmuseum, which has been selected as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.
There are limits to what can be conveyed in a photo, but it was beautiful and moving.
There were many photo books and old books by Dutch painters, including Van Gogh.

The Van Gogh Museum is a must-visit for the best art experience in your life.
There are indeed several museums in the Netherlands that collect Van Gogh's works, the most famous of which are the Van Gogh Museum (Van Gogh Museum) and the Kröller-Müller Museum (Kröller-Müller Museum) in Amsterdam. These two museums together have the largest collection of Van Gogh's works in the world.
1. Van Gogh Museum (Van Gogh Museum) - Amsterdam
•Location: Museumplein, Amsterdam
•Collection: The Van Gogh Museum has the largest collection of Van Gogh's works in the world, with about 200 paintings and more than 500 sketches by Van Gogh. Important works include "Sunflowers", "Iris", "Wheatfield with Crows" and "Self-portrait", etc.
•Features: In addition to exhibiting Van Gogh's paintings, it also displays his letters during his lifetime, and deeply explores his life course, the evolution of his artistic style, and his connection with contemporary artists. The museum also regularly holds special exhibitions to display the works of other artists, highlighting the mutual influence between Van Gogh and them.
2. Kröller-Müller Museum (Kröller-Müller Museum) - Otterlo
•Location: Located in the Hoge Veluwe National Park in the Netherlands, about 1.5 hours drive from Amsterdam.
•Collection: The museum has more than 90 paintings and more than 180 sketches by Van Gogh, making it the second largest collection of Van Gogh in the world. The main works include "Café Terrace at Night", "The Sower" and "Tree Roots".
•Features: The museum combines a unique experience of art and nature. In addition to Van Gogh's works, it also collects many modern artworks. The sculpture garden of the museum is also a highlight, displaying various contemporary art sculptures, and visitors can appreciate artworks in the natural environment.
3. Other museums that collect Van Gogh's works
Although these two museums have the most Van Gogh works, some other museums in the Netherlands also have a small collection of Van Gogh works:
•Mauritshuis in The Hague: Mainly Dutch Golden Age paintings, but also a collection of Van Gogh's works.
•Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam: There are also several works by Van Gogh in the collection, showing the evolution of his style.
These museums together showcase Van Gogh's rich artistic heritage and are a cultural experience not to be missed when visiting the Netherlands.
Visiting Amsterdam
Visiting Amsterdam was an amazing experience. This city combines history and modernity with its picturesque canals and historic buildings.
I enjoyed visiting the Rijksmuseum, where I could learn about great Dutch art. I also explored the Red Light District, which offers a glimpse into local culture.
The dining experience was delicious, especially when I had Dutch pancakes and local cheese. The café atmosphere was relaxing, making every moment enjoyable.
I recommend everyone to visit Amsterdam and explore its unique beauty and culture. It's an unforgettable city! 🚲🏛️
Conservatorium Hotel
The Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam is a luxury hotel known for its combination of historic architecture and contemporary design. Located in the heart of the city's museum district, it's within walking distance of the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, and Vondelpark, making it an ideal spot for tourists interested in culture and the arts. The hotel is housed in a 19th-century building that was originally a music conservatory. It has been beautifully restored with a modern touch, blending classic elements like high ceilings and original architectural details with contemporary design and luxury finishes.

Madame Tussauds Amsterdam 🗺️
#museums
During my summer vacation in Amsterdam, I couldn’t resist visiting Madame Tussauds, and it turned out to be an incredibly fun experience! 🎭 Located right in the heart of the city on Dam Square, the entrance fee was €26.50 if you book online, which I recommend to avoid the queues.
Madame Tussauds Amsterdam is more than just a wax museum; it’s an interactive experience where you can get up close with lifelike figures of celebrities, historical figures, and even Dutch royalty. The detail in the wax figures is astonishing, making it easy to forget they aren’t real! I had a blast posing with icons like Beyoncé, Barack Obama, and even some classic Dutch figures like Anne Frank. 📸
What I loved most was how interactive the exhibits were. You can step into a Marvel movie, join a fashion show, or even take a seat in the Dutch Parliament! It’s a great place for both adults and kids, with plenty of photo opportunities and surprises around every corner.
After spending a couple of hours at Madame Tussauds, I took a stroll around Dam Square and visited the nearby Royal Palace. The area is buzzing with energy and there are plenty of cafes and shops to explore. ☕️🛍️
If you're looking for a mix of fun and culture, Madame Tussauds Amsterdam is a fantastic spot to add to your itinerary. It’s an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, especially if you’re in the mood for some lighthearted entertainment.

Ladies' Amsterdam 3-day 2-night solo trip - hassle-free version 😊
Second solo trip, this time the itinerary is more relaxed and leisurely. If you don't want to be too tired, you can refer to this. I basically checked in at all the important attractions and Internet celebrity food.
🎯 Safety
Although there is often a pungent smell on the road, it is generally safe. The street is still brightly lit after 10 o'clock. There is no logo on the canvas bag, so it has not been stolen and no strange people have been encountered.
🎯 Transportation
I bought a three-day pass for amsterdam region travel tickets at the connected train station after getting off the plane. If you don't go to the windmill village and Lego Town, you can buy amsterdam travel ticket
It should be enough. In addition, I strongly recommend downloading the NS app, which is very convenient for checking the tram/train time and platform.
🎯 Accommodation
I stayed next to the train station, which is basically close to everything. You must book it in advance, otherwise the hotel in the city center is very expensive.
⭐️DAY1 [Van Gogh Museum] ➡️ [moco museum]
⭐️Ticket booking tips: Generally, the official website of the Van Gogh Museum will release tickets for the next day at 5 pm local time the night before. This is how I got it. But booking in advance is definitely the safest.
What time do you buy audio at the Van Gogh Museum (with Chinese)? The selected route is 45 minutes, and the regular route is 1.5. Moco Museum is a one-minute walk from the Van Gogh Museum. I only went to the souvenir shop to buy a beautiful canvas bag!
🍗Eat: [Castell] I ordered spare-rib and it made me dizzy (P2)
⭐️DAY2 [Zaandam Lego Town] ➡️ [Windmill Village] ➡️ [Canal Boat Trip]
Lego Town is 2 stops away from Windmill Village, so you can go together.
The boat trip was booked for flagship. The set meal I chose had free flow of cheese and wine. It is recommended to go around 8 o'clock, and it is very beautiful at sunset. It is very interesting to listen to the tour guide talk about the history of Amsterdam. It is worth more than 30 euros.
⭐️DAY3 [Netherlands National Museum] ➡️ [Ninth District Canal City Walk]
Museum tickets can be booked on the same day. I strongly recommend renting audio. The audio here is the best I have ever used, with Bluetooth map. The selected route is 1.5 hours, and the route is very organized. I bought two beautiful canvas bags.
In the afternoon, I checked in at the popular snacks and some vintage shops next to the canal.
💥Van Stapele Koekmakerji
The famous chocolate cookies. You can order them on the official website in advance. Otherwise, you have to wait in line for a long time. Those who like sweet food will love it.
💥fabel freit
The clerk was so handsome. The fries were just ordinary delicious fries, and the truffle mayonnaise was very fragrant.
💥Paloberry
Chocolate strawberry. I was prepared to step on thunder but it was unexpectedly good.

Lovely Garden at Rijksmuseum
#familytrips2024
A peaceful oasis as compared to the Rijksmuseum, the Rijksmuseum Garden is located at the back of the museum and has much lesser people exploring the garden. Take a stroll around the lovely garden and take a rest at one of the many seats available around the garden. There is also a beautiful water fountain in the Rijksmuseum Garden. I will recommend you to take a break in the garden to relax after the grueling museum tour with the overwhelming tourist crowd.
Beautiful Canals of Amsterdam

I am just glad that this palace provide an audiotour system. It’s easy to use and you may listen to it at your own pace quietly, that way, it is not so noisy in the palace. The audio are quite interesting and even asking some questions that make you think and looking back for some hidden or key points on certain items showed in the palace. Tulip Tours Holland
#springblossom This tour was a nice way to spend an afternoon in the rural areas north of Amsterdam. It was nice to get out of the city and see the countryside. We had a very small group of 9 so that made it easy for our well-informed guide to give us lots of attention and answer all of our questions. We visited 3 tulip farms, in order from small to large and 1 working windmill. It was nice to not be around all the crowds of Kuekenoff. We also stopped at a small restaurant and had a traditional Dutch lunch.

Summer chillin' in Amsterdam
One memorable trip in 2023 was a short one-day layover in Amsterdam! Though it was short, it was thoroughly enjoyable exploring this highly walkable (and bikable!) city in late summer - all the locals were out relaxing and basking in the sunlight and the layout of the city also makes it easy to navigate.
🚆 You can take the train from the airport to Amsterdam Centraal, it costs less than 10 euros and is fast and efficient with clearly signposted directions at Schipol airport.
🚲 or 🚶♀️ It's good to leave a bit of time to just wander and explore this charming city. There are many little alleys and nooks along the cobblestoned streets, take the time to wander and you might find some hidden gems like the Marionnette theatre, a delight for young and old alike
☕️ Rest your feet at any of the charming cafes around and savour a slice of must-have apple cake!
In 2024, my wish is to venture back to Europe to see the Northern Lights!

Hotel in the Netherlands | Amsterdam Conservatory Hotel
The Amsterdam Conservatory, a century-old building, originated from the Royal Bank of the Netherlands and later became the Royal Conservatory. The old conservatory had no new owner after moving at the beginning of this century, until 2011 when this classic Dutch building made a gorgeous turn and reappeared in an amazing hotel look.
Geographical location
The hotel is located in the center of Amsterdam, with shopping centers, computer cities, museums, cultural corridors nearby, and convenient transportation.
Accommodation
The Amsterdam Conservatory Hotel has 128 rooms and suites to choose from. These include rooftop rooms, studios, apartment-style suites, and more. The hotel has two styles of rooms, one is irregular lofts and the other is as modern as other Asian hotels. In the attic rooms, there are various Dutch specialties, such as Delft ceramics and Dutch wooden shoes, simple and warm.
Hotel catering
In terms of catering services, the hotel's Taiko Japanese restaurant airlifts all Wagyu beef directly from Japan, paired with Gin born in the Netherlands and a variety of cocktails made with it, allowing guests to feel a feast from taste and vision at the same time.
Stunning Riverside Restaurant
Former pop-up restaurant BAK now has its own permanent location on the Van Diemenstraat in Amsterdam. Located on the water in Amsterdamse Houthavens, BAK sets daily menus with ingredients that are the best at that moment. In the restaurant they only work with local products and the menu is always seasonal, gastronomic and a la carte.
This is a rather rugged yet inviting restaurant with its splendid view over the IJ River. Benny Blisto sets great store by the origin of his ingredients, be it a carrot or ray wing. Locally sourced, seasonal produce is the inspiration behind his creativity. For instance, with slightly tart rhubarb and an exquisite beetroot sauce, he elevates a venison fillet to new heights. An exciting dining experience is guaranteed!
Places to go in Amsterdam
Here’s three activities I did when visiting Amsterdam
• Keykenhof tulip gardens - A wonderful place to visit in the spring when the flowers are blooming, if walking around the sculpted gardens isn’t for you, you can also hire bikes or a boat and go on a tour around the actual flower fields
• Hortus Botanicus - This botanical garden has a wide variety of plants and lets you discover butterflies up close. It has a nice cafe and is situated right on a canal making it a great place for lunch
Zuid-Kennermerland - After short train ride to Haarlem and then renting bikes, we cycled to the national park that’s located on the coast of the Netherlands. There’s so many paths to discover here, and we ended up over the dunes and on the beach, after grabbing a snack from the cafe here. It’s a safe easy place to cycle to and would be great for a family

Amsterdam is Absolutely stunning in Autumn 🍂. The trees lining the canals start changing colors , leaves are blowing around, and the weather made you wanted to walk around the city for an hour at least .
we absolutely love the autumn leaves fall season in Amsterdam as you can see more natural color paint into the city. especially those in between Canal. Breezy weather blowing up the leaves like an magical moment .

Amsterdam is a one-of-a-kind destination. The picturesque canals, vibrant tulip markets, and friendly locals made our trip truly memorable. Exploring the city by bike was a highlight, and the museums, like the Rijksmuseum, were filled with incredible art. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and delicious Dutch cuisine. A unique and unforgettable travel experience.
