Wat Pak Nam is a third-class royal temple. It is located in the Bangkok plain, which is part of the Chao Phraya delta. It is located on the banks of Khlong Luang or Khlong Bangkok Yai, which was the original Chao Phraya River before a canal was dug in front of Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan and became the Chao Phraya River today. Since the temple is located at the mouth of Khlong Dan, which separated from Khlong Bang Luang, the name of the temple was called Wat Pak Nam, which appears in many ancient historical documents. Wat Pak Nam is an ancient temple built in the middle Ayutthaya period (between 2031-2172 B.E.) and was established by the royal family during the Ayutthaya period, but the exact name is unknown. It is the temple of the Thonburi province. It appears in the legend of various objects that King Nangklao established as a royal temple during the Ayutthaya period, meaning a temple established by the king or his queen during the Ayutthaya period. Evidence of ancient objects and ancient sites in the temple date back to the middle Ayutthaya period. During the reign of King Rama VI, Wat Pak Nam fell into disrepair and there was no abbot. There were only caretakers from other temples. The governing monastic order sent Phra Sot Chanthasaro from Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimonmangklararm Ratchaworamahawihan to be the abbot. He strictly enforced the Dharma and Vinaya for the monks and novices. Importantly, he taught Samatha-Vipassana meditation. He received royal grace and was granted the title of Phra Rajakhana Sect of Vipassana Dhura and was promoted in order. His last title was Phra Mongkhon Thepmuni, but people generally know him and call him Luang Pho Wat Pak Nam. Wat Pak Nam Phasi Charoen built Phra Phuttha Dhammakaya Thepmongkol, a 69-meter-high Buddha statue in the Samadhi posture, which was completed in 2564. It is the tallest statue and Buddha image in Bangkok and the third tallest in Thailand.
