Take in the views over the Forbidden City across the street at Jingshan park. It's cheap entry with a short walk to the top. Take your time on the way up the hill, it's pretty picturesque with views of the whole city. It gets super crowded so it may take a while before you manage to work your way to the front of the crowd to catch the view.
