A sacred place of compassion written in sculpture

In the light and shadow of the Beibu Gulf, the glazed golden roof of the Guanyin Temple is looming. This ancient temple, which was built in the Ming Dynasty, uses its ingenious sculpture art as its writing, and has written an eternal poem of compassion between the blue bricks and black tiles. It is next to Chen Mansion and you will easily miss it if you are not careful. It has a small entrance but a lot of secrets inside. The group sculptures of Eighteen Arhats on both sides of the corridor are considered the pinnacle of Lingnan stone carvings. He is sitting cross-legged in the "Moon Disc Mudra" posture, with 108 arms stretched out one after another like a peacock spreading its tail. The Dharma eyes in each palm are outlined in gold foil, emitting the light of wisdom under the candlelight. The exquisite carvings on the eaves and the Buddhist verses throughout the courtyard not only bear witness to the craftsmen’s piety in “using knives as pens and stones as paper”, but also continue to write the timeless legend of oriental aesthetics in every fold of clothing.
