Exploring Edinburgh in one day!!! - The Magical City of Scotland.
Edinburgh captivates instantly with its blend of history, culture, and magic. With just one day, I set out to experience as much as possible. I started on Princes Street, Edinburgh’s bustling main avenue lined with shops and cafes. Dominating the skyline is the Scott Monument, a gothic tower honoring Sir Walter Scott. Nearby, Edinburgh Castle awaited at the top of the Royal Mile. Exploring this ancient fortress was a highlight—its medieval stone walls, St. Margaret’s Chapel, and the Crown Jewels bring Scotland’s history to life.
For fans of J.K. Rowling’s world, Victoria Street is a must. Said to inspire Diagon Alley, this colorful street is filled with quirky shops. I couldn’t resist a stop at Knoops for a custom hot chocolate—a cozy treat that fit the storybook setting.
Next, I headed to the National Museum of Scotland. Its free exhibits range from ancient artifacts to modern innovations, showcasing Scotland’s fascinating heritage. Back near Princes Street, I visited the Scottish National Gallery, where works by Botticelli and Monet are displayed alongside iconic Scottish art. The gallery’s serene atmosphere offered a welcome pause amid the day’s bustle.
Finally, I climbed Calton Hill for sunset. From this iconic spot, the panoramic views over Edinburgh, with Arthur’s Seat and the Firth of Forth, were breathtaking. The sky turned pink and golden, painting a perfect close to my day.
Edinburgh in a day offers a rich tapestry of history, culture, and natural beauty—an unforgettable journey through Scotland’s heart in just 24 hours.
10 things to do on a Misty Day in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh is a magical city, and a misty day just adds to its charm. Here’s a list of 10 things to do that complement the cozy, atmospheric vibe of misty weather:
1. Have a Coffee and pastry in a cozy cafe.
Edinburgh has many cozy coffee spots. Visit the Elephant House, known as the birthplace of Harry Potter, or the Milkman for artisan coffee and a relaxing vibe.
2. Enjoy a Full Scottish Breakfast.
Traditional cafes like Salt Cafe and City cafe are probably a great choice, but I would recommend The Edinburgh Larder as their Scottish Breakfast is another level.
3. Explore Edinburgh Old Town.
Wandering through the misty, cobbled streets of the Old Town feels like stepping into history. Stroll down the Royal Mile, passing hidden closes (alleyways) like Mary King's Close or Advocate’s Close.
4. Visit Edinburgh Farmers' Market.
Held every Saturday at Castle Terrace, the Edinburgh Farmers' Market offers a fantastic selection of local produce. You’ll find fresh vegetables, meats, Scottish cheeses, and artisanal goods like breads and pies. It's a great spot to taste local treats, chat with farmers, and even grab a warm venison burger or Scotch pie.
5. Enjoy a Scotch Whisky Experience.
Located on the Royal Mile, this tour takes you through the whisky-making process via a fun barrel ride. You'll enjoy whisky tastings, explore the sensory room, and see a stunning collection of over 3,500 bottles of whisky.
6. Take a Ghost Tour.
Edinburgh's misty atmosphere is perfect for a spooky ghost tour. Join a walking tour that ventures into Greyfriars Kirkyard or the underground vaults to hear eerie tales of the city's haunted past.
7. Explore the National Museum of Scotland.
This vast, interactive museum is ideal for escaping the weather. From Scottish history to science, it has plenty to explore. The rooftop terrace also offers spectacular misty views of the city skyline.
8. Relax in The Scottish National Gallery.
Escape the damp and take in beautiful artwork by both Scottish and international artists. The gallery houses works by Turner, Van Gogh, and Scottish artists like Sir Henry Raeburn.
9. Warm up at a Traditional Pub.
Settle into a cozy pub with a fireplace. Try a classic like The Sheep Heid Inn (one of Scotland's oldest pubs) or The Royal Oak, where you can enjoy a pint of ale, some live folk music, and hearty Scottish fare.
10.Shop for Scottish goods.
Wonder around Royal Mile, Victoria Street and Grassmarket to look for local goods. From Traditional tartan scarves and blankets to Scottish shortbread and fudge, you would definitely find something made this a memorable trip!

Wandering through the historic city of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Strolling through the birthplace of the Harry Potter series—Edinburgh—feels like traveling through a time tunnel, allowing you to personally experience the rich history of this ancient city. From the Vennel viewpoint, you can overlook the entire city, with the towering Edinburgh Castle standing majestically on the rock, as if guarding this tranquil city.
Entering the New College of the University of Edinburgh, I felt as if I had stepped into a temple of knowledge filled with the scent of books. The Gothic architecture, intersecting corridors, and staircases all exude a strong academic atmosphere. Here, I can feel the footsteps of countless students who have studied here.
Climbing Calton Hill, I gazed at the vast sunset cityscape. Looking into the distance, surrounded by mountains, the ever-changing sea of clouds on the horizon creates a captivating scenic painting. Here, the charm of nature and culture deeply attracts me.
Walking through Edinburgh is like a wonderful journey through time. Whether it's the majestic castle, the solemn and steady college, or the idyllic town, I deeply feel the unique historical and cultural atmosphere of this city, as if I am in a three-dimensional historical painting.
Edinburgh, UK!
Edinburgh, UK. No matter the season, the stone buildings in Edinburgh are quite eye-catching, not because they are particularly colorful, but because these houses have been built for so long that the stone surfaces have turned somewhat black. Combined with the local damp and rainy weather, it makes the overall color uneven, which is characteristic of Edinburgh.
Whether it's the ordinary streets or the University of Edinburgh, the houses are basically like this. Sitting outside a cafe and having a coffee, you can still look up to see such buildings. The overall impression is one of historical weight and reflects the city's long history.

"The castle keeps secrets for love" Edinburgh Castle
One of the filming locations of Jay Chou's "Ming Ming Jiu" MV🏴
Almost missed Edinburgh Castle when I came to Edinburgh🏰
Because the castle is very popular, tickets must be booked in advance‼️
I didn't book in advance, and found out that the tickets were sold out when I walked in on the day
Fortunately, the kind staff at the door told me that I could ask at the tourist info
With a try-it-out attitude, I bought the original price ticket for the day at the city sightseeing bus stop in front of the church⛪️! You can go straight in at the time without queuing~
If you forget to make an appointment in advance like me, you can try this method💕
🏰Edinburgh Castle Edinburgh Castle

🚗If you drive by yourself, you can only park at the foot of the mountain, because there is no parking lot🅿️ near the castle, we parked at the nearest NCP Edinburgh Castle Terrace, the parking fee is a bit expensive, walk up the steps for 15 minutes and you will arrive at the main entrance of the castle~
📷Photo location
▪️Jay Chou's same location, keep going inside after entering the door, don't go uphill, there will be a downhill place, next to it is the museum, and the viewing platform is at the end where you can see the distant church
▪️Another location is near the small church after going uphill, the roof is very obvious~
▪️Ross Fountain Ross Fountain, outside the castle, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the castle, it is also a very good angle for taking pictures~🆓

Edinburgh Christmas Season|Waiting for a century sunset on Calton Hill
Edinburgh is a city full of magic, it's the kind of romantic that no matter how many times you come, you still want more.
This is my third time in Edinburgh, and Calton Hill gave me the most explosive sunset of 2023!!
·
I happened to catch the Christmas market in Edinburgh, the streets are full of Christmas atmosphere, the whole city looks more vibrant.
Edinburgh city is not big, basically you can have a lot of fun just by walking, take this 2-day citywalk route, while exploring the city don't forget to go to the Christmas market to experience the local lifestyle!
·
Day1️⃣
Edinburgh Castle (How can you not see the light of Scotland, you can overlook the whole Edinburgh from the castle. The castle is very big, if you visit carefully, you can stay for half a day)➡️Rose Street Butter Beer (Potions Cauldron on Rose Street is a very famous butter beer store, Harry Potter fans must not miss it)➡️George Street Christmas Market (In addition to Prince's Park, there is also a Christmas market on George Street in Edinburgh city, with fewer people, this year's carousel is on George Street)➡️Calton Hill (A must-go in Edinburgh! The sunset never disappoints)
·
Day2️⃣
Dean Village (A small village on the edge of Edinburgh city, with a very British retro taste, about 20 minutes walk from the train station)➡️Victoria Street (The colorful facades are very recognizable, the shop fronts are various styles, full of Christmas atmosphere)➡️W.Armstong & Son Vintage Shop (One of the most famous vintage shops in Edinburgh, I always find something every time I come, this time I got a saddle bag)➡️Prince Street Garden Christmas Market (You can see the skyline of Edinburgh from Prince's Park, with a magical attribute, with the addition of the Christmas market, it's even more fairy tale, dinner was solved at the Christmas market, I love hot dogs + hot red wine, it's the taste of Christmas)➡️Waverley Station (Waverley Station is really full of industrial flavor, Christmas lighting is also very ceremonial)
·
The winter days in Edinburgh are short, which is very suitable for citywalk, not tired and you won't feel too cold if you move around. If you have time, I highly recommend you to squat a sunrise at Arthur's Seat.
·
The best way to go to Edinburgh is of course by train. It only takes over 4 hours to take the LNER train from London to Edinburgh, it's very convenient to buy tickets from the self-service machine at King's Cross Station. I stayed in York for an extra 2 days, it only takes over an hour from York to Waverley Station in Edinburgh, scanning the QR code to enter the station saves a lot of time.
First class seats come with catering service, LNER has launched a special Christmas catering, the taste is not bad (also got a lot of chocolates and candies)~ I didn't expect there to be charging devices on the LNER train, no more anxiety about phone battery
·
PS: It's recommended to stay near Waverley Station in Edinburgh, it's convenient to go anywhere, you can have a lot of fun just by walking, if you haven't decided where to go for Christmas, why not come to Edinburgh for a romantic sunset~~~ Edinburgh·UK
The Majestic Views of Edinburgh Skyline

The view from afar is a mesmerizing tableau, showcasing the city's juxtaposition of ancient and modern elements. Surveying the sprawling landscape from this vantage point unveils the dramatic skyline, the elegant sweep of Princes Street, and the iconic Arthur's Seat. Whether bathed in sunlight or illuminated against the night sky, the distant view from Edinburgh Castle captures the essence of the Scottish capital in a breathtaking display of architectural and natural beauty.

Edinburgh, UK!
Now, Edinburgh, which is only 8 degrees, is more suitable for these ancient stone buildings. The low temperature makes them more stable. In the city where plants are not developed, these old houses are the absolute protagonists. The designers of that era used shapes to adjust these hard brown houses. What is inexplicable is whether the University of Edinburgh has achieved the literary atmosphere of this city, or the humanistic atmosphere of this city has created this university.

Lauriston Castle and its gradens are stunningly beautiful and really well maintained. Really interesting to learn about its architecture and also about the family that used to live in it. Amazing interiors and some of the stuff are left untoched for the past 100 years. Isn't it amazing? It blows my minds how well things are looked after and preserved. There is also a lovely cafe so if you get poeckish then you can just grab some food and a cuppa.

The Edinburgh Dungeon 🇬🇧
#timetotravel
My experience at The Edinburgh Dungeon in the UK was a thrilling and immersive journey through Scotland's dark and intriguing history. Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh, this unique attraction welcomed me with its spine-chilling storytelling, live actors, and atmospheric settings. As I ventured through the themed rooms, encountered historical characters, and learned about the city's eerie past, a mix of excitement and suspense filled me. The dungeon's location on Edinburgh's Royal Mile made it an accessible and captivating stop for tourists and history enthusiasts alike. It wasn't just an attraction; it was a theatrical adventure that brought history to life, inviting me to confront tales of plague, witch hunts, and other dark chapters, leaving me entertained, educated, and marveling at the theatricality and immersive experience it provided.
