Shawan Ancient Town

Located in Panyu, Guangzhou, Shawan Ancient Town features grey brick walls, pot-ear roofs, and stone-paved streets, which are the standard characteristics of Lingnan-style folk houses. The quaint town is divided into three distinct areas, each with its own charm. Near the East Gate, old houses are concentrated and have been transformed into studios, teahouses, and guesthouses, making it a great place for photography; the West Gate area still has many residents living among a variety of new-style houses; the South Gate area has completely taken on the form of a commercial street within a scenic area. I wanted to go out and capture the quiet streets in the early morning when no one was around, but as I walked onto the street, the stone-paved road was full of people rushing by on electric bikes, either sending their children to school or returning from buying groceries, all exuding the strong local life vibe of a Pearl River Delta town.
