TRADITIONAL HANOK NIGHT VIEW : GYEONGJU
#travellerswonderland #awesomepic #100waysoftravel
📍Address: Hwangnamkwan Hanok Guesthouse , Gyeongju
• Hanok typically features elegant, curved roofs that extend beyond the walls, which helps to protect the structure from the elements. The roofs are often made from tiles or thatch.
• Hanoks are primarily constructed using wood, creating a warm and natural aesthetic. The use of wooden beams and columns supports the roof and allows for flexibility and durability.
• One of the most notable features of hanok is the traditional underfloor heating system called "ondol". This system uses heated stones or flues under the floor to warm the living space, making it comfortable during cold winters.
• There are several hanok villages throughout South Korea, such as Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul and Jeonju Hanok Village in Jeonju. These areas allow visitors to explore traditional houses, experience cultural activities, and enjoy the aesthetic beauty of hanok architecture.

Convenient Transportation and Rustic Charm at Sillabang Guesthouse (신라방)
If you want to experience authentic Korean traditional living, Sillabang Guesthouse (신라방) is a fantastic place to stay. This renovated hanok is located right in the city center, offering both convenience and rustic charm. Our room was spacious, equipped with high-speed internet and a large TV. The bed (tatami) was comfortable, and thanks to the traditional Korean floor heating, it stayed warm even on cold days!
It is adjacent to Seongdong Market, where you can buy fresh gimbap or pig's feet. You can walk to the Wolseong Fortress Wall and the bus stop, which will take you to Bulguksa Temple, Anapji Pond, and all other tourist attractions in town. Free bicycles are provided, making it easy to explore most of the sights in a day.
The courteous hanok owner is always helpful, offering free eggs, bread, coffee, and tea at any time. There's also an adorable dog that might bark at you initially but is actually very friendly.
We took the slower Mugunghwa train from Busan to Gyeongju, and when we arrived at Gyeongju Station, Sillabang Guesthouse was just a 10-minute walk away. The Mugunghwa train is cheaper and takes less than 2 hours from Busan to Gyeongju, so if you're planning to include both cities in your itinerary, consider taking it.
If we visit Gyeongju again, we would definitely stay here! The website is entirely in Korean, which might be intimidating, but just email the owner, and they will sort everything out.
A Romantic Spring Escape: The Perfect Couple's Travel Experience in Gyeongju
#coupletravel #100waysoftravel #southkorea #gyeongju #sakurablossoms #cherrybloosom
I would say Gyeongju is perfect for a couple's trip in spring. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, with petals flying everywhere, making the air feel sweet and romantic. Korean couples are all around, setting up their tripods to capture the perfect couple photos. We brought our own tripod too, and they were more than willing to help us take photos whenever we needed. We spent a lovely afternoon relaxing and chilling in the Sakura garden at Bulguksa Temple and by the peaceful Boemun Lake, soaking in the beauty of the season and each other's company. It was a truly magical and romantic experience.
Journey Through Ancient Korea in Gyeongju
If you often visit Seoul or Busan, you might want to explore different places in Korea, such as Gyeongju.
In fact, it's very convenient to travel from Seoul or Busan to Gyeongju. You can take the Korail train and reach Gyeongju in just two hours. It's even closer from Busan, taking only half an hour to reach Singyeongju Station. However, since I don't know how to drive, I had to take a taxi to the city center. Make sure to have a phone with translation functions because most taxi drivers don't understand English.
Visiting Gyeongju feels like traveling back in time to ancient Korea. You can stroll and take photos in the old streets of the city, which are very beautiful. Many shops in traditional Korean houses retain their architectural features, and you can spend half a day exploring them. Additionally, they offer traditional and creative Korean cuisine and souvenirs.
Moreover, you can visit unique ancient buildings from the Silla Kingdom, including Daereungwon Tomb Complex, the thousand-year-old Cheomseongdae Observatory, Anapji Pond, and Woljeonggyo Bridge. These sites are especially beautiful at night when illuminated, offering a completely different visual experience compared to daytime. During the day, you can explore history, while at night, you can appreciate the art and romantic atmosphere.
After visiting the palace buildings, I also toured Yangdong Village, which has a 500-year history. It's a place to experience the life of ancient commoners. People still live in Yangdong Village today, and from a distance, the hillside is filled with ancient houses, creating a dreamy feeling.
Another highlight of visiting Gyeongju is staying in a traditional Korean house, which is a unique experience.
The Blue Natural Scenery of a Summer Day
Gyeongju, famous for its numerous cultural assets!
This place is home to Chilbulam, where cultural heritage and natural scenery blend beautifully.
Especially on summer days, you can easily spot mushrooms or toads in nature, allowing you to fully enjoy the natural surroundings.
If you want to see beautiful nature despite the hot weather, we recommend Chilbulam in Gyeongju. 💐

Gyeongju Travel - Exploring Bulguksa Temple, Gameunsa Temple Site, and Daewangam
Gyeongju is a historic city that served as the capital of the Silla Dynasty for over 1,000 years, known as Seorabeol, Geumseong, or Gyerim at the time. In particular, I visited Bulguksa Temple and Gameunsa Temple Site, which were representative temples of the Unified Silla period.
1️⃣ Bulguksa Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, first built during the reign of King Beopheung but significantly reconstructed by Kim Dae-Seong during the reign of King Gyeongdeok after the unification.
2️⃣ Bulguksa Temple houses many relics, among which the Dabotap and Seokgatap pagodas are the most famous. Dabotap, National Treasure No. 20, is also the background of the 10-won coin, and originally there were four stone lions at the base, but now only one remains.
3️⃣ Alongside Dabotap, Seokgatap, National Treasure No. 21, stands facing it. Notably, the oldest existing Mugujeonggwang Great Dharani Sutra was discovered in Seokgatap.
4️⃣ Leaving Bulguksa Temple and heading towards the city, you can see a replica of the nine-story pagoda of Hwangnyongsa Temple, which is said to have been the largest in Silla.
5️⃣ Leaving the city of Gyeongju and heading towards Gampo Bay on the East Sea, you can find the Gameunsa Temple Site, built by King Munmu's son in memory of his father who unified the three kingdoms, and there you can also see the Gameunsa Temple Site Three-Story Stone Pagoda, National Treasure No. 112.
6️⃣ Next to the Gameunsa Temple Site, in Gampo Bay, is King Munmu's underwater tomb, also known as Daewangam.
7️⃣ Gyeongju is also famous for delicious foods such as mulhoe and milmyeon, so be sure to try the local cuisine along with your historical and cultural journey of Silla.

Gyeongju Tower Park
During my visit to Gyeongju Tower Park, I spent beautiful and special moments. Here are some of them:
1. Exploring the lush gardens: I entered the park and wandered between the green trees and beautiful meadows. Enjoy the beauty of various flowers and tropical plants that add color and vitality to the place. Those moments were filled with tranquility and harmony with nature.
2. Walking along beautiful lanes: I toured the paved corridors of the garden and enjoyed walking along paths surrounded by trees and plants. They were quiet and comfortable moments that gave you the opportunity to rest and reflect on the beauty of the natural environment.
3. Outdoor dining: I enjoyed a snack or lunch at one of the dining areas in the garden. I relished the outdoor food and the splendor of the surrounding nature. It was a special moment where I could enjoy the food and take a break in a beautiful and comfortable atmosphere.
Visiting Gyeongju Tower Park will be an unforgettable experience where you can enjoy the beauty of nature, tranquility, and relaxation.

Beautiful Bulguksa Temple is Gyeongju

Hallasan Mountain in autumn has an exotic atmosphere of seeing colorful autumn leaves and green leaves together. Jeju Island's autumn leaves are affected by the temperature and precipitation during the autumn season. The lower the temperature, the earlier the autumn leaves are, and the better the autumn leaves are in the mountains than in flat areas, and in places with less precipitation. This month, the average temperature of Hallasan Eorimok from the 1st to the 9th was 12.3 degrees, 0.5 degrees lower than the same period last year. The amount of precipitation was 10mm, 55.5mm less than last year, the Korea Meteorological Administration said. The peak of Jeju autumn leaves was 24 days last year, and on average, it is around 28 days. The standard for the magnificent view of Hallasan Mountain's autumn leaves is near Eorimok Square and Omokgyo Bridge.
Beautiful View of Bunhwangsa Temple
#falltrip
Bunhwangsa Temple, was built in 634. There is a three-tiered pagoda (National Treasure No.30), though it is presumed that it was originally seven or nine stories. Pats of the pagoda collapsed over time, and it was renovated in 1915. During the renovation, a stone reliquary was discovered with coins used in Song China. This suggests that it was also renovated at the beginning of the 12th century. Shells from Taiwan and Okinawa were also found on site, showing the reach of the Silla kingdom. The pagoda used to be hollow but now it is filled with the collapsed remains of the other floors.
Beautiful autumn view of Bulguksa Temple
#falltrip
The same goes for spring flowers, but autumn leaves may suddenly turn red due to changes in temperature, but for now, the autumn leaves at Bulguksa Temple may not be until the end of October. When I actually came to Gyeongju two years ago, I happened to see the autumn leaves of Bulguksa Temple. It was the peak of autumn leaves in Bulguksan Mountain around mid-November.
I thought I'd still have to wait another week to see the colorful fall leaves of Gyeongju's famous temple Bulguksa. I thought it was too hasty to come here with the thought of autumn leaves, so I decided to take my time to look around the Bulguksa Temple grounds.
Night View of Gyochon Traditional Village
#localescapes
When visiting Gyeongju, I suggest taking a walk around Gyochon Village, especially at night. Within the village, you will see traditional architecture. It is a short walk from Cheomseongdae and the royal tombs. It also leads to the Woljeonggyo Bridge, which is also beautiful at night. In the village, there are experience centers, educational programs, and performances. The village is over 400 years old and has been in the Choi family for 12 generations. For locations is Namsan-dong, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Gyeongju Pink Mully, where the news of enlightenment is heard around the Chuseok holiday. It's one of the famous pink muhly spots in Korea. The Cheomseongdae Pink Mulley colony is a good place for a day trip to Gyeongju to see autumn flowers along with the Cheomseongdae Wild Flower Complex. I think there are a lot of people who are curious about the time of enlightenment. As of September 27th, it seems to have bloomed more than 50% so that it may be faster than expected. It looks like more than 70 percent. Even if you travel to Gyeongju in a nearby area or by train, it's worth going out on a day trip in Korea. I think it would be okay to go see pink mully for about a day because the Chuseok holiday is long.

May's Christmas "Oreung"
Whenever I visit Gyeongju, there are always too many people around. However, despite being a beautiful place, Oreung is less crowded and more relaxing, making it a great place to visit!!! Everyone, please come to Oreung 🚗🚗🚗
When I first saw the Ippop tree, I thought it was covered in cheese powder, but when I saw the lush Ippop tree, it looked like a snowflake❄️
From late April to May, there are lush Ippop trees in Oreung, where you can take beautiful photos. Although there are not many Ippop trees, they are much more abundant than those in other places, making them even more beautiful🤍

Gyeongju in July, Summer Story
There is good news for tourists traveling around the city center of Gyeongju by walking. Gyeongju City's public bicycle 'Tasila' has started trial operation. Tasila is a public bicycle rental service operated by Gyeongju City, and it has the convenience of unattended rental and return by attaching an IoT-based terminal to the bicycle itself. The trial operation started on June 25, and you can use the service for free for the month of July, and from August, when the official operation starts, you can rent a bicycle with ease at a cheap price.
To escape the midday heat, take a walk in the late afternoon on the Maru-gil of Hwangryongsa Temple, which is a good place to take a leisurely stroll. The Hwangryongsa Maru-gil is a two-kilometer one-way walking path connecting Bunhwangsa (temple) and Woljeonggyo (bridge), and it is a rewarding walking route that allows you to explore the main tourist spots in the city center. The reason why we recommend walking the Hwangryongsa Maru-gil in the late afternoon is to avoid the summer sun, but there is another reason.
