A Delightful Thai Dinner Gathering

In recent years, I've attended fewer large banquet dinners, but I am always willing to join a meal with six or seven close friends for some good food and conversation. Last night, a friend suggested we go to Prince Edward for Thai food, and I was more than happy to join. The organizer did a great job, arranging the menu with the restaurant in advance. All I had to do was show up on time and enjoy the meal. Given the hot weather, starting with a cold drink was the most practical choice. Lime soda is a classic option, but I recommend trying the slushies. Whether it's pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, or mango, they are all visually appealing and perfect for Instagram, while also being naturally delicious and refreshing. The food started arriving, with fresh shrimp sashimi served on a three-tier stand, instantly elevating the dining experience. The shrimp was fresh and sweet, paired with garlic slices and a tangy sauce that whetted our appetites. Next came a platter of appetizers, including spring rolls, shrimp cakes, fish cakes, chicken rolls, and chicken wings. All were flavorful and to my liking. It had been a while since I had single-bone chicken wings, and the fish cakes with a hint of red curry were particularly enjoyable. The staff brought out a fish-shaped dish, which I initially thought was grilled fish, but it turned out to be grilled squid. The chef's skill in cooking the squid was impressive; it was tender and not chewy, and the vermicelli absorbed all the essence of the broth, making it irresistible. The signature curry crab was a must-try. Don't be afraid to get messy—put on the gloves and dig in. The crab was meaty and delicious, and the curry sauce was perfect with crispy garlic bread. Absolutely no complaints. The Thai-style braised pork knuckle was mouth-watering at first sight. The collagen-rich pork skin and tender lean meat, accompanied by pickled vegetables, were simply outstanding. The tom yum soup was rich in ingredients, with a good level of sourness, though I felt it could have been spicier. We ended the meal with a stir-fried morning glory, which was crisp and flavorful, leaving us satisfied. For dessert, we had mango sticky rice. The chef put a lot of effort into making the sticky rice in three colors—original, pandan, and butterfly pea flower. It had a great texture and paired perfectly with fresh mango, making for the best ending to the meal.
