” Xunyang Tower is located on the south bank of the Yangtze River, outside the Jiuhua Gate in Xunyang District, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It is named after the ancient name of Jiujiang, Xunyang. The tower was originally built in the Tang Dynasty, and the current building was rebuilt in 1987, covering an area of 2,800 square meters, in the style of Song Dynasty architecture. The design of Xunyang Tower was inspired by the illustrations in 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival' and 'Water Margin', featuring the architectural style of tea houses and taverns in the Jiangnan region during the Song Dynasty. The name Xunyang Tower first appeared in the poem by Wei Yingwu, the governor of Jiangzhou in the Tang Dynasty. However, it was Shi Nai'an's 'Water Margin' that truly made Xunyang Tower famous, with the stories of Song Jiang's rebellious poem and Li Kui's rescue at the execution ground. The tower is 21 meters high, with three visible floors but actually four inside, five bays wide, and surrounded by corridors and railings. The tower has a three-tiered eave and a nine-ridge hip roof covered with green tiles. Under the eaves on the north and south sides of the top floor hang large plaques inscribed with the characters 'Xunyang Tower' by Zhao Puchu. In front of the tower stands a 'watch pole' with a blue cloth wine flag inscribed with 'Xunyang Jiang Zhengku'.
