The Great Buddha of Kamakura is located in Kotoku-in, a Jodo-shu Buddhist temple in Kamakura, Japan. The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha located in Kotoku-in, a Jodo-shu Buddhist temple in the ancient city of Kamakura. It is a symbol of the ancient city of Kamakura. The Great Buddha is 11.3 meters tall and 13.35 meters tall including the pedestal, and weighs about 121 tons. The statue was built in 1252. The relatively flat face, low ushnisha, and forward-leaning posture of the Great Buddha are characteristic of the Song Dynasty statues that were popular during the Kamakura period. It is a representative statue of the Kamakura period and has been designated as a national treasure of Japan. Unlike the Great Buddha of Todai-ji in Nara, which has undergone many repairs over the years, the Great Buddha of Kamakura has basically maintained its original form, making it very precious. The Great Buddha of Kamakura is 11.5 meters tall and has a hollow interior that can be accessed from the bottom of the back of the statue. Once inside, you can see obvious traces of multiple repairs. On the left side of the statue, there is a pair of eye-catching straw sandals, each about one meter long. It is said that these are offerings woven by children from Ibaraki Prefecture for the Great Buddha.
