Kaohsiung, the central city in the southern part of Taiwan, is reputed as a “romantic port city”. It is not just a massive and prosperous port city, but is also rich with fashion and culture. Liuhe Tourist Night Market and Kaisyuan Night Market are favorites of Taiwanese snack lovers, while Dream Mall can satisfy any shopping desire. You can also choose to take in the colorful sights the Dome of Light, located in the Formosa Boulevard MRT Station.

Nature Hike at Shou Shan Trail in Kaohsiung
#100waysoftravel #hiddengem #hikingtime
I recently hiked the Shou Shan Trail in Kaohsiung, and it was an exceptional experience. The trail offers a blend of challenging terrain and rewarding views, making it ideal for both seasoned hikers and those looking for a scenic outing.
The hike takes you through lush forested paths and rocky sections, culminating in stunning panoramic views of Kaohsiung city and the surrounding landscape from the summit. The trail is well-marked and maintained, with ample signs and resting spots along the way.
The natural beauty and tranquility of Shou Shan are impressive, providing a refreshing escape from the city hustle. Wildlife sightings, including various bird species, added to the hike's charm. The cooler temperatures at the higher elevations made for a comfortable trek, even on warmer days.

The market offers a wide variety of local delicacies, from juicy stinky tofu and savory oyster omelets to sweet and refreshing bubble tea. The energetic vibe and bustling crowds add to the excitement, making it a great place to explore and sample different flavors. Qijin Starry Sky Trail: A Romantic Night View Perfect for Families and Couples
The Qijin Starry Sky Trail is located in the Qijin District of Kaohsiung City. This romantic trail, themed around the starry sky, is situated within the Qijin Windmill Park and stretches along the coastline for approximately 1.2 kilometers. At night, the trail is illuminated with lights resembling stars, creating an effect of gazing at the night sky, hence the name 'Starry Sky Trail.' It is an excellent spot for watching sunsets and night views, making it a popular destination for couples on dates and for taking photos.
The trail's design combines natural beauty with artificial art. Along the way, there are viewing platforms where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the sea and the lights of Kaohsiung City. During the day, you can enjoy the sea breeze, and at night, you can stroll under the starry sky. It's a place suitable for families and couples to visit together.
Kaohsiung Cijin Beach: Blue skies and white clouds, chilling under the sun.
When talking about beaches in Taiwan, many people think of Kenting. However, Kaohsiung's Cijin Beach is also definitely worth a visit. First of all, the crowd is much smaller compared to Kenting. You can keep a distance from others, walk romantically along the beach with your partner, and always find a spot to sunbathe and swim without being crowded. Alternatively, you can go early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Consider it for your next trip.
Overlooking Kaohsiung at Qihou Battery: The Coastline at Sunset
During a three-day, two-night trip to Kaohsiung at the end of June, my French friend and I experienced an unforgettable day. In the evening, we climbed Qihou Mountain and first visited the Kaohsiung Lighthouse, where we enjoyed a panoramic view of the entire harbor. Then, we arrived at Qihou Battery, a historic site that has witnessed the past and changes of Kaohsiung. Standing on the battery, we were greeted with a vast seascape and the bustling city, all bathed in the golden hues of the sunset. We deeply felt the history and vitality of this city. At that moment, time seemed to stand still, with only the wind and memories flowing.
A Morning in Kaohsiung with Island Breeze, A Ferry Ride in the Heat.
At the end of June, I visited my aunt who lives in Kaohsiung. One hot morning, we went for a walk in Shaochuantou Park. Although the greenery in the park was refreshing, the scorching sun made it difficult to stay for long. We quickly decided to head to Gushan Ferry Station and take a boat to Cijin Island. As we rode the ferry, the breeze hit our faces, instantly making us feel much cooler. The beautiful scenery of Cijin and its relaxed island vibe became our best escape from the heat.
At the intersection of Love River and Europe, encountering past travel stories in Kaohsiung.
At the end of June, I visited my aunt who lives in Kaohsiung. On a hot afternoon, we took a boat ride on the Love River. A gentle breeze blew as the sunset cast a golden glow over the river, bathing the entire city in a golden light. Unexpectedly, I met a guide on the boat who had previously worked in Europe. We talked about many experiences and stories from living in Europe. This encounter not only brought back memories of those distant days but also reminded me how unforgettable the people and events we meet during our travels can be.
Kaohsiung's Nature Ecological Park for Hiking: Dagang Mountain.
I visit Dagang Mountain, a well-known scenic spot in southern Taiwan, almost every week, 1-2 times. Also known as Dagangshan, it is located at the junction of Alian and Tianliao in Kaohsiung, with a peak height of 312 meters, making it one of Taiwan's minor hundred peaks. Originally a military base, it was opened to the public and established as an ecological park with hiking trails. Many visitors come here for exercise, and temples like Chaofeng Temple and Lianfeng Temple have become even more popular, making it a famous Buddhist holy site in the south.
The drive from Tainan city to Dagang Mountain takes about 30-40 minutes via the 86 Expressway connecting to National Highway 1, exiting at Alian. The surrounding countryside is filled with guava trees and lush greenery, though it can get quite hot!
There are many entrances and routes to Dagang Mountain. We usually arrive early around 6 AM, entering through the ecological park and ascending a gentle slope. The common route we take is from the trailhead to the detention pond, then to the mining area exhibition hall, natural park, Haoliang Pavilion, Xinliang Pavilion, and finally the peak, covering about 3 kilometers in an hour.
We descend the same way, but from Haoliang Pavilion, we switch to the shaded trail and wooden boardwalk, looping back to the detention pond and the entrance parking lot. The entire journey is over 6 kilometers and takes about 2 hours.
Sometimes, we take a detour from the natural park to the Acacia Forest and Laoshi Temple, then loop up to Haoliang Pavilion via Furong Road. This route is extremely steep and guarantees a sweaty workout!
Another option is to walk from Laoshi Temple to Chaofeng Temple and return the same way. This path is lined with longan trees and also covers about 6 kilometers in 2 hours.
Occasionally, we venture from Xinliang Pavilion into the narrow gorge of Panlong Canyon to see the rugged limestone terrain. The mining area exhibition hall is also interesting, with one building being a conveyor facility and another painted in a blue and white Greek style. However, due to safety concerns, they are now fenced off and unused.
Dagang Mountain's hiking trails are well-maintained and suitable for families. The routes can be adjusted based on physical strength and time, and along the way, you can buy fruits and vegetables, making it quite a pleasant experience.

Visited the 高雄 爱河 for the CNY 小黄鸭🐤 , they have been there for one month. How lovely and manage to watch them on their finally day on 25th Feb 2024. The count down of the sending off was so amazing with a group of orchestra playing, live streaming via the media and a few divers and boat bringing them, we bid them good bye as they were leading away this beautiful river. The deluxe room spans about 40 square meters, featuring a large bathroom with a bathtub, and stylish blue hexagonal wall tiles; the bedroom has one large bed and a sofa, with a colorful signature mosaic headboard, and big welcoming phrases like 'Welcome' and 'Dagou' in both local and fashionable styles; but the best part is the large floor-to-ceiling window, allowing you to gaze at the cityscape from the comfort of your bed, which is incredibly cool!
The rooftop bar at Indigo is also quite famous, with an Instagram-worthy ball pit, neon lights, and a large projection screen. Ordering crispy chicken with beer, enjoying the night view, and feeling the breeze is super chill. Breakfast is another highlight, featuring made-to-order specialty seafood congee and a variety of noodles. After finishing, you can order other flavors; you'll want to try each one, if only your stomach were bigger!

Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung
It was almost raining in Kaohsiung, but during a break in the rain, I took a YouBike to the Pier-2 Art Center at night. There were very few people around.
The lighting was somewhat dim, but it was beautiful.
Inside the warehouses, there were people working.
The first horizontal swing bridge in Taiwan, which is the longest swing bridge over a harbor in Asia, completes its rotation within 3 minutes.
There is an opening and closing show every day at 3 PM, and an additional one at 7 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Without knowing this, I visited and was able to see the opening and closing show by chance.
【Kaohsiung Attractions】Cijin Lighthouse: A Century of History, Perfect for Evening Appreciation.
The Kaohsiung Lighthouse (Cijin Qihou Lighthouse) is located on the magnificent Qihou Mountain, guarding the Kaohsiung Harbor with its dazzling white appearance. It is a symbol of the port city and the only lighthouse in Taiwan that is open for night visits.
Built in 1883 by a British engineer, the lighthouse, along with the fort, is a rare construction in Taiwan. Its century-old history has witnessed the development of Kaohsiung Harbor from ancient times to the present. It is the only white octagonal brick lighthouse in the country. The body of the lighthouse is octagonal, turning cylindrical at the top, with a balcony for a panoramic view. In front of the lighthouse, there is a Western-style white wall office displaying the instruments, photos, and location maps used by the lighthouse in the past. On the lush green lawn outside, there is also a sundial.
Even without waiting until night, the scenery before evening is still captivating. The pure white lighthouse overlooks the entire Cijin coastline, and there is even a café nearby, making it the only lighthouse attraction that offers food and beverages. The scenery here is reminiscent of Busan, South Korea.
When you come to Kaohsiung, don't forget to visit the Kaohsiung Lighthouse to admire this beautiful century-old lighthouse, overlook the entire cityscape of Kaohsiung, and experience the charm of the port city! 🌟🗼

This is my second time in Kaohsiung, and the citywalk is a must-visit spot
This trip to Taiwan, Kaohsiung was not in the plan
But, looking at the plane tickets
Kaohsiung to Macau is over 400
Stacking up some 200 return 💰, YYDS
Kaohsiung is fun, will come again next time
Below are my citywalk spot recommendations in Kaohsiung:
1⃣️Cijin Island
⛴️Transportation: Exit from Sizihwan MRT station, take the ferry from Gushan Ferry Terminal, 30 New Taiwan dollars, about 5 minutes to arrive
🌟Highlights
1. Cijin Old Street, old-style buildings, traditional Taiwanese snacks, not many tourists in the morning, very comfortable
2. Cihou Lighthouse (first picture), one of Kaohsiung's postcards, not to be missed. Whether it's the beautiful sunset or the cityscape of Kaohsiung, it's all in sight
3. Cijin Beach, listening to the waves on the black sand beach, sunbathing is really comfortable, if you're hungry, go to the old street to eat something and come back
2⃣️Sizihwan Viewpoint
This is a good place to check in for the sunset in Kaohsiung
🚇: Sizihwan MRT Station
3⃣️Former British Consulate at Takao
Located halfway up the mountain, it was once the British consulate. You can see the cityscape of Kaohsiung
🚇: Sizihwan MRT Station
4⃣️Pier-2 Art Center
🚇: Kaohsiung Light Rail Pier-2 Dayi Station
This place is very large, there are some art districts, as well as some exhibitions and markets. Eat, drink and play are all available. At the same time, this is also one of the must-check-in spots in Kaohsiung
5⃣️Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts
🚇Kaohsiung Light Rail Art Museum Station
Check in at the most beautiful light rail station in Kaohsiung, visit the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. However, the day I went, I happened to encounter a Japanese 🇯🇵 market held here, it was very lively, so I didn't go to the museum, leaving some regrets, I must go next time 😂
6⃣️Formosa Boulevard
This is actually just an MRT station, it is a huge art dome made of glass, one of the largest glass artworks in the world
7⃣️Liuhe Night Market/Ruifeng Night Market
Taste the local Taiwanese snacks, feel the lively night market atmosphere
Weekend getaway to sunny Cijin Island
#weekendgetaways A perfect day trip for a weekend getaway if you are ever in the city of Kaohsiung
Getting There - Take the MRT to Sizhiwan Station. Once out of the station, follow the signs that say ferry port which takes you on a 350m walk. The ferry ride takes only 5 minutes to get to the island. Both MRT and ferry ride accepts EasyCard for travel convenience.
Attractions - Beaches, Cijin Tunnel of Stars, Lighthouse, Fort Ruins, Food street, Sunset view, Biking Trails, Fishing Spots, Surfing
Food & Restaurants - Variety of Taiwanese street food selling in stalls and roadside, Seafood, Sunset Bar
An island with many attraction spots apart from the sandy beaches and tranquil waves, this is what makes Cijin Island such a unique place. Instagrammable opportunities abundant all around.
What I did was going to the lighthouse first which you can see from afar. On the way, passby a beautiful tunnel which was recently refurbished and you will come across a magnificent view of the waves hitting along the rocks. After a hike atop quite a number of stairs (not for the faint hearted), you will reach the lighthouse where there is a coffee shop for you to take a rest if needed.
After that, follow the path to the Cijin fort where you can see the remaining remnants. Acrophobias beware as the fort is quite tall in height.
Feeling tired? Follow a short path down to the beaches and rest at the local sunset bar where as the name implies, you can view the daily sunset atop the sea and beach. Perfect ending.

The artsy city, Kaohsiung Taiwan
#fallishere Come explore this artsy part of the city where street arts are abundant on the buildings of this small village called WeiWu MiMi Village.
Getting There - Recommended to take the MRT to WeiWuYing Station and alight from entrance 4 or 5. Once you exit the station, you cannot miss the library painting building (cover photo)
Attractions - Street art photography
Food & Restaurants - Local residential snack store which sells Taiwanese sausages, rice cake and fried fish cake
Bonus recommendaton - Take a 10 minutes taxi ride from the place to 原龍羊肉海產-一心路總店, a restaurant specializing in lamb pot. What a unique find as it is similar to the famous Bak Kut Teh that you can find in Malaysia or Singapore. It is essentially a herbal soup which you can find lamb meat inside. The taste is not that sweet and it is very very fragrant. You can order the lamb hotpot as well as the famous lamb risotto and lamb vermicelli. A true local favorite and you will certainly not be disappointed.
Also, one of the best night markets in Taiwan is nearby here, RuiFeng Night Market which you can visit as well.

Kaohsiung Pier 2 Art Centre 📸
#exploreasia
Pier 2 Art Centre is located at Pier 2 of Kaohsiung Port. During the Japanese colonial period, it was a warehouse for storing sugar and transporting exports but afterwards, it was damaged by U.S. bombings. After the reconstruction in 1962, it then played an important role in converting railways to sea transportation as well as a transportation hub for the development of salt industry. .
Until 2018, various Taiwanese creative brands, local catering and delicacies have been brought into the area to successfully revitalise the old warehouse and create a waterfront space that allows a lot of youth spend time in!!
Tips: Visit during evening time it is more lively.
where art meets 🚝🚆🚇What a Station!!!! formosa Boulevard station in Kaohsiong

Madame Interpreter’s journal view of “The love river “ from the top 😊
Once known as the heavily polluted river in the southern of Taiwan, with the effortless of the government, now the Love river or “Ai River” is ever clean. You may get used to with the view along side of the river bank, but try this stunning view of the river and the view of Kaohsiung city from the higher place, The brand new hotel that has been built near the river bank provided the very good spot to enjoy the beautiful view of the “love river” and the city.

Madame Interpreter’s journal Beyond imagination , what to do in Taiwan - pier 2 Art Khaoshiung
The space for art to be shown to the world. The place fits for the big pieces of arts where no other place can. I would recommend the visitor to rise a bike and ride around this place. Very easy to access by public transport from the city center of Kaohsiung Taiwan.
Great place to let the children run wild, release their imaginations who knows the next piece of art show in this pier could be theirs.🛤️

#kaohsiung #taiwan #traveltaiwan #visitkaohsiung
With the past changing urban scene, you can see the Dragon and Tiger twin pagodas at Lotus Lake.
It is sorrounded by a beautiful artificial lake and other religous templed dedicated for different deities.
Enter the mouth of the dragon and exit through the mouth of the tiger to bring good luck and fortune!
There was so many people during my visit so I can't take any picture at all during my obligatory walk. ( ˘︹˘ )
Just some steps from the twin pagodas you can also visit the several pavilions and walkways that has vantage points over the lake
and the Zuoying Yuan Di Temple, where you can see the impressive warrior-statues lining the walkway to the towering Taoist deity, Xuandi with his Seven Star Sword.

Breathtaking with one of the largest Buddhist
Fo Guang Shan is an international Chinese Buddhist monastic order based in Dashu district, Kaohsiung.
The cultural attraction's expanse of more than 100 hectares steals your breath at first glance.
Not only is the Buddha museum striking from the outside, but the interior is as captivating due to the exquisite and magnificient decorating. The paths inside the museum campus are quiet and shaded by tall trees.
