Lauterbrunnen

My son Scott gifted me the trip of a lifetime, and we were both thrilled to be exploring Switzerland this coming October. When talking to friends who had the fortune of traveling to Switzerland, they said that the autumn months of September and October were optimal for weather and the least crowded. We landed in Zurich and rented a car for the week to our base in Lauterbrunnen. Lauterbrunnen was the hub for many planned activities where trains and cable cars would be our modes of transportation. Our rental home backed up to a meadow and had views of the various famous waterfalls that Lauterbrunnen is known for. When we arrived early on the first day, we first visited the famous Trummelbach Falls, which was a short drive from home. Inside the mountain, there are ten glacial waterfalls, and because the walk is quite steep, there is a 'lift' that takes you up four floors. From there, you can wind up and down to see the magnificent waterfalls. The next day we got up bright and early, with no fatigue from jet lag, and were on our way to the top of Europe. A splendid view was guaranteed as long as the weather forecast was checked to ensure no clouds were predicted. We toured the Ice Palace with its many ice sculptures and were delighted to see our faithful Piz Gloria on display. After indulging in the Lindt Candy Factory, we started an adventure down a different mountain than the one we took the gondola up! First, we went to Grindelwald where we rode the First Flyer, with four brave souls being pulled up the mountain backwards and then propelled to the starting point at warp speed. It was an exhilarating ride. Inside me was a daredevil. Passing the slow pokes in the group and maneuvering the bike, I increased my speed at every turn. I hated that this fun adventure was ending. Looking back at the video Scott took, I had to laugh at not only the big smile on my face but also how I appeared to be moving at a snail's pace. Next was scootering down the rest of the mountain. I decided I could very well break a hip with this, so instead, I took the gondola back down and filmed Scott's scooter trip.
