Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is a bascule and suspension bridge in London, England. Tower Bridge was built in 1886 and opened to the public on June 30, 1894. Due to the rise of commerce in London's East End in the second half of the 19th century, a new bridge was needed to relieve traffic pressure. However, this bridge could not be built as a traditional fixed bridge, as it would cut off the port facilities located between London Bridge and the Tower of London at that time. The design of Tower Bridge holds a certain status in the world of bridge construction. The two towers on both banks, built of granite and steel, are about 60 meters high and have two levels. The upper level supports the towers on both banks, and the lower bridge deck allows pedestrians and vehicles to pass through. If a large ship sounds its horn, the lower bridge deck can automatically tilt up on both sides, and pedestrians can then take the upper level. Tower Bridge connects the north and south districts of London as a whole, greatly relieving the traffic pressure on the River Thames. It not only provides a convenient passage for pedestrians, but also allows vehicles to pass through.
