Remembering the Red Legend: The Luding Bridge spans the cold iron chains In western Sichuan, there is a place called Luding County; in Luding County, there is a bridge called Luding Bridge. The Luding Bridge was the last stop on our trip to western Sichuan, and it was a very meaningful one. The Luding Bridge is an ancient bridge that was built in April of the 45th year of the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty (1706) and has a history of 317 years. It is also a bridge with unique construction techniques and bridge types. It is 103.67 meters long and 3 meters wide. The main body of the bridge is composed of 13 iron chains and tens of thousands of iron rings. This iron chain bridge, which is full of Chinese wisdom, is famous at home and abroad for the battle of "Flying over Luding Bridge", which is a miracle in Chinese and even world military history. On May 29, 1935, the Chinese Workers and Peasants Red Army fought desperately here with the reactionary forces of the Kuomintang, and achieved a great victory in flying over Luding Bridge. Luding has thus become a famous city in revolutionary history. Looking at the Luding Bridge, which I have seen in many movies, TV dramas and literary and artistic works, it seems to see the brave and fearless figures of the Red Army soldiers. Touching the iron chains that have been weathered by wind, frost, snow and rain, it seems to feel and experience the heroic battle of the Red Army soldiers who are not afraid of death and the enemy, and the heroic battle of life and death. Looking down at the rushing waves and rapids under the iron chain bridge, it seems to hear the warriors braving the enemy's gunfire, shouting without hesitation, and rushing towards victory. Standing on the Luding Bridge, which has been paved with flat wooden boards today and has protective nets on both sides, I think that everyone, whether they were comrades or opponents, cannot but respect the heroic deeds of the Red Army soldiers who flew over Luding Bridge. Only by stepping on the Luding Bridge under the roaring river can we truly feel that the spirit of the Red Army soldiers flying over Luding Bridge, who are not afraid of danger, fearless in the face of danger, and not afraid of sacrifice, is worthy of our respect. Only by walking on the swaying Luding Bridge can we have a deeper understanding of our peaceful environment and happy life today.
