As the first famous building in Jiangnan, Tengwang Pavilion was first built in the fourth year of Tang Yonghui (653 AD, during the reign of Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Yuanying, the younger brother of Emperor Taizong, built it while serving as the governor of Hongzhou in Jiangnan). It was later destroyed by several fires and was rebuilt many times during the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, with a total of 28 reconstructions. The current Tengwang Pavilion was built for the 29th time in October 1989. The main building is 57.5 meters high, with a construction area of 13,000 square meters.
