In-Depth Guide to Shitennoji: A Visitor's Personal Experience

As a tourist fascinated by Japanese culture, Shitennoji was undoubtedly a highlight of my trip to Osaka. This ancient temple, with a history spanning over a thousand years, is not only one of Japan's oldest state temples but also a symbol of the introduction of Buddhism to Japan. Upon entering the temple gates, I was immediately struck by the solemn and ancient atmosphere. The five-story pagoda stands majestically, and the main hall glows with the light of Buddha, making every step feel like a journey through history. I strolled along the central axis, from the main gate to the lecture hall, with each building exuding the charm of the Asuka period. The temple's museum is a must-visit, housing numerous artifacts and historical materials related to Shitennoji, which deepened my understanding of the temple's history. The temple gardens offer another delightful scene, small yet exquisite, complementing the ancient temple perfectly. The most unforgettable moment for me was standing beneath the five-story pagoda and looking up to see the faint outline of Mount Fuji. At that moment, I felt I could sense the ambition and grandeur of Prince Shotoku when he built the temple a thousand years ago.
