This Merlion was designed by Kwan Sai Kheong and sculpted by Lim Nang Seng. First unveiled on 15 September 1972, It symbolises Singapore's origins as a fishing village, known as Temasek. The Merlion faces east because according to Feng Shui, that is the direction that will bring the most success!
