Canal hunting in Suzhou

One fun way to travel around Suzhou's old town, Gusu, is to follow the canals. The Old town is bordered by the remnants of the city walls and a canal all the way around, it's beautiful but would take you an day or so to traverse it all. If you'd like to see the local life it's best to follow the internal canals of Gusu. They take you through little neighborhoods, round the gardens and they're surrounded by life and beauty.
