Tainan District Court during the Japanese occupation, now a national monument: Judicial Museum

#2024TravelReview Tainan is really full of historical sites, even the former "Tainan District Court" is a national historical site! After restoration, it was opened to the public in 2016 and renamed the "Justice Museum". The Tainan District Court was built during the Japanese colonial period. Its exterior is a typical Baroque style, with a spectacular dome roof, Roman arches, and red brick walls, but the wooden ceiling catwalk is retained inside, which is a very special combination! Entering the lobby of the Judicial Museum, you can see a dome similar to that of the Chimei Museum, with exquisite reliefs and spectacular columns, and the floor is made of Victorian-style geometric colorful tiles. The court still retains the courtroom, archives room, safe depository and detention center, which is really interesting to visit! However, there was supposed to be a tall tower on the roof, but it was demolished due to damage. However, through the installation art of mirror reflection, the beautiful appearance of the tower was restored in the mirror, which is a very powerful technique. The Judicial Museum is just opposite the Tainan Museum of Art. It is free to visit and is quite worth a visit.
