Shiliang Waterfall is located in Tiantai Mountain, 22 km north of Tiantai County, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is the essence of Tiantai Mountain National Scenic Area. The following is a detailed introduction: Natural Scenery • The uniqueness of Shiliang Waterfall lies in a huge stone beam about 2 zhang (6.6 m) long, which spans between two cliffs. The Jinxi and Daxingkeng streams flow from the left and right, and after four turns, the streams gather into a huge snow wave, rushing towards the stone beam. Most of the water flows through the bottom of the beam and falls into the deep valley, making a thunderous sound. • There are many attractions around it, such as the ancient Xiafangguang Temple, which is the place where the 500 Arhats of Buddhism should be true. It preserves the camphor wood carvings of the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the oldest gilded 500 Arhats in China. Zhongfangguang Temple is located beside Shiliang Bridge. In the temple, there is a copper pavilion built by the eunuch Xu Gui, the governor of the nine gates in the first year of the Ming Dynasty. There are miniature 500 Arhats carved in the pavilion. Tanhua Pavilion was originally built by Prime Minister Jia Sidao during the reign of Emperor Lizong of the Song Dynasty. It is said that after the pavilion was completed, when the monks offered tea, strange flowers appeared in the teacups and disappeared suddenly, so it got its name. History and Culture • Tiantai Mountain is the birthplace of the Tiantai Sect of Buddhism. There are more than 20 cliff inscriptions near Shiliang Waterfall since the Song and Ming Dynasties, such as the "First Wonder" inscription by Mi Fu, a great calligrapher of the Song Dynasty, and the "Shiliang Waterfall" inscription by Kang Youwei, a leader of the reformist movement in the late Qing Dynasty. • Many literati and poets, such as Bai Juyi, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, and Wei Yuan, a scholar of the Qing Dynasty, were attracted by it and left magnificent poems.
