Urumqi Landmark｜Hongshan Park

Hongshan Park in Urumqi is a comprehensive natural mountain park that integrates tourism, classical features, cultural connotations, and fitness. The park has many famous attractions such as Hongshan Tower, Great Buddha Temple, Yuetiao Building, Underground Palace, Rest Pavilion, South Lake, and Lovers' Lock, each with its unique historical and cultural background. Hongshan Park is named for its reddish-brown color, which comes from the purple sandstone that makes up the Hongshan mountain body. It boasts unique natural scenery and rich cultural connotations. According to geological research, Hongshan rose along with the Tianshan Mountains during the Himalayan orogeny about 80 million years ago. The mountain has rare fossil resources, including a fossil of an ancient codfish from 270 million years ago and a fossil resembling a human shoe print. Hongshan has an elevation of 910.8 meters and is named "Hongshan" due to its reddish-brown color from the purple sandstone. The shape of Hongshan resembles a giant dragon lying horizontally from east to west, with its head raised towards the Urumqi River. Hongshan Park, built on Hongshan, is a rare mountain park in China. Transportation Information: Take bus routes 29, 35, 58, 61, 62, 63, 908, 919, or 927 and get off at Hongshan Park Station. Take the BRT2 rapid bus to Xidajie Station, then walk about 400 meters to reach the park.
