The Keyuan: A Top-Ranked Late Qing Dynasty Garden

Keyuan is located in the Guangling District of Yangzhou. Opening hours: 7:30 am–5:30 pm Tickets: CNY 30 (off-season), CNY 45 (peak season) Parking lot: There is a small parking lot with a fee. Parking around the area is difficult. During peak season, the entrance can get very crowded. Taking a taxi is recommended. Keyuan's owner, He Zhidao, a Yangzhou gentleman, built this private garden in the ninth year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign. Keyuan enjoys the reputation of being a top-ranked garden of the late Qing Dynasty. The garden's architecture blends Chinese and Western styles, with multiple corridors connecting different areas, creating a layered layout. My favorite part is the back garden, which is divided into east and west sections. The Water Heart Pavilion in the middle of the pond is also ingeniously designed. In addition, Keyuan's corridors are unique. They not only lead to every part of the garden but also offer window views that create a scene-within-a-scene effect.
