Zhixi Yangtze River Bridge is the sixth Yangtze River Bridge in Yichang City, with a total length of 3,229.681 meters, of which the main bridge is 1,303 meters long and the main span is 838 meters; the Sanjiang Bridge is 378 meters long and the main span is 210 meters. • The bridge starts from the interchange hub of Jiangnan Avenue and Dianjun Avenue in Dianjun District in the west, and ends at the west section of Xiling Second Road in the east. It has six lanes in both directions and a design speed of 60 km/h. Construction history • The project was launched in 2009 and was then called "Miaozui Yangtze River Bridge." • Construction began on November 18, 2012, the entire line was completed on November 23, 2015, and the bridge officially opened to traffic on July 18, 2016. Architectural design • Design concept: With Yichang's mountains and rivers as the background, the main tower of the main bridge outlines the virtual shape of the mountain, sketching the "Bashan silhouette," and the stepped shape of the top of the Sanjiang Bridge tower forms the real mountain shape, combining the virtual and real of the two main towers. • Structural features: The main bridge adopts a single-span double-hinged steel-concrete composite beam suspension bridge scheme; the Sanjiang Bridge adopts a central cable-stayed bridge with a high and low tower concrete beam. Technical innovation and environmental protection measures • Key technologies include good durability design, ultra-wide main girder central cable-stayed bridge, pebble stratum diaphragm wall technology, etc. • To protect the migration of Chinese sturgeon and finless porpoise and the surrounding environment, a single-span crossing scheme is adopted, no bridge piers are built in the water, and sewage facilities, specially designed street lights, rubber pads and shock-absorbing chains are laid on the box girder, etc. Operation • The entire bridge is free of charge, and medium and heavy trucks, yellow-label vehicles, low-speed trucks, and motorcycles are prohibited from passing, and light trucks are prohibited from entering during peak hours. • Equipped with temperature and humidity monitoring system, wind force and wind direction monitoring system, monitoring and speed measurement facilities, etc., to ensure the health of the bridge and traffic safety. Value and significance • Together with the Yiling Yangtze River Bridge, it forms the "inner ring" of the central urban area, and together with other bridges, it forms the "outer ring" of Yichang's urban transportation, promoting the harmonious development of the dam area and the reservoir area. • It is a major strategic project to replace the Gezhouba Dam top road and ensure the safe operation of the Three Gorges Project. Cultural connotation • The name comes from Ouyang Xiu's "Xiazhou Zhixi Pavilion Record" in the Northern Song Dynasty, reflecting historical facts, commemorating Ouyang Xiu, and establishing the cultural image of Yichang.
