Dali - Erhai lake and the mountainsDali city is a county level city that actually encompasses all the settlements surrounding the Erhai Lake. The modern central part is located in the south and is your most probable entry point since the bus and train stations are located there. That part is also probably the one you will be least interested in. Although it's coastal area does have nice views and some fancy hotels most travelers head out to one of the smaller places around the lake, most notably the Dali Old Town. Dali Old town is technically a tourist center and most travelers choose to stay in or around it. The famed three pagodas as well as the starting point for climbing CangShan are all located near the Old Town. The town itself is nice enough and rather big. The fact that it is not pedestrianized and that pavements are very often blocked with stalls and parked cars does make it a bit hectic, especially in the high season, so staying on the fringes of it is probably a better option. To be honest, most of the things we wanted to see and do In Dali had nothing to do with the Old Town itself. It is a good place to eat and drink though, although 'tourist surcharge' will most certainly apply. If you have not arrived by car, renting an e-bike for exploring short distances is actually a good idea. The three of us got on one e-bike and squeezed it out of all of its juice while exploring around. So much so, that we actually had to recharge on the way because the declared 70km range probably did not refer to a 160kg+ weight-load. Great way to discover surrounding villages that offer a bit more authenticity and bit less crowds that the Dali Old town.Most of the town pictures you see above(5-6-7) are actually from XiZhou (喜洲古镇) a smaller village further north really worth a visit. Quite a lot of people also like renting one of the pink convertibles and I suppose it is a good way to reach farther as well as take that ever so important Instagram photos. I would come here again. The place does offer some real peace and quiet as well a serene landscape, even though it is often hidden by noise of the crowds and commerce. #wintergetawayVlad the Traveler10
Welcome to the 3 Pagodas and many Temples!Getting There - I took an electric bike, you really can't miss it. Attractions - it was 75¥ to get in. The Pagodas are amazing and beautiful, but definitely check out the bazillion temples. It's worth it to get to the third highest temple. The very top was closed when I went with my friends.Argiope

These pagodas were built hundreds of years ago but there are still monks praying in the temples to this day！There are many many temples that continually rise into the mountain，so be prepared for alot of walking. We kept thinking we had come to the end of the temples but there were still more to see！We prayed to Buddha and bought a token to hang up for good luck. The three towers of Chongsheng Temple are located in the urban area of Dali. The ancient tower is well preserved. It has a fight with the small wild goose pagoda of Xi'an. This is the scenic spot of 5A. There are not many tour groups. If the weather is clear, you can take a beautiful three tower shape!
三座宝塔非常震撼，虽然因为全天都在下大雨导致无法细细参观，但还是觉得不虚此行。但有三点还是想吐槽一下：1：崇圣寺在明清时因战争被毁。现在是新建的，只有20年的历史。规模很大，远看确实巍峨磅礴，宏伟壮丽。但奈何很多建筑细节包括诸神佛像工艺都略显粗糙，透露出廉价感。而且商业化严重，就像个影视基地。2：往返的电动车还包含了导游解说。导游大姐一开始的解说还是很认真的，但是很遗憾到了三塔前时就开始变味了。还没有介绍几句，就突然话锋一转开始洗脑大家如何犯了太岁，如果想要保平安就应该去买风铃为自己祈福，讲了十几分钟全都是这个。好家伙言下之意如果不花这钱消灾的话，我今年就要到倒大霉了。浓浓的推销味。然后就只去关照买风铃的成员了，剩下被无视的团员都很茫然，也不知道是就此解散还是应该一直等着。最后也只能各自离开了3：各种卖东西的白族老阿婆真的有点太执着了，这大概也是大理所有景点的通病了。一路追在后面不停的叫卖，无论怎样拒绝都不走。从门口一直追到马路，叫人哭笑不得
Chongsheng Temple, east to Bohai Sea, west to Cangshan Mountain. Chongsheng Temple was built in the Nanxun period. After the Nanxun, Dali State, Buddhism is more developed than Nanxun, known as the "Buddhist State". After the completion of Chongsheng Temple, it will be the center of Buddhist activities during the Nanxun and Dali State period. The "sacred" of Chongsheng Temple was Guanyin. At that time, Dali area was extremely successful in worshiping Guanyin. Nine of the 22nd emperors of Dali had gone to Chongsheng Temple to become monks. Chongsheng Temple burned down during the Qingxianfeng years, and only three towers were intact. To change the situation of pagodas without temples, the Dali Bureau of Culture rebuilt Chongsheng Temple in 2004. The three towers of Chongsheng Temple are composed of one big and two small. The big tower is called the Chitose Pagoda. Built in the period of Quan Fengyou in Nanlu (823 ～ 859 AD), it is a 16-level square dense hollow brick tower, which is a typical Tang Dynasty architectural style, and the tower is 69 meters high. The appearance of the two small towers in the north and south are conical, which is a typical Song Dynasty architectural style. It was built in the Zhengyan and Duan Zhengxing period (AD 1108 ～ 1172), all 42 meters high, and is a pair of 10-level octagonal dense brick towers.
