Laojia Village

Laojiazhai is located in Fenghuang County, Hunan Province, less than 2 kilometers away from the market of Shanjiang Town, with very convenient transportation. Laojiazhai Ancient Miao Village is located at the foot of Qifengpo, which has lush vegetation and good ecological environment. It is surrounded by green mountains and reflected in the mirror-like lake. The village built in the Bagua diagram has exquisite layout. The old-fashioned paths in the village are all blue-tiled and ancient walls, and the alleys are secluded. A towering ancient hazel forest grows on a small hill by the lake, guarding this thousand-year-old village. Legend has it that this place is the habitat of the mythical bird Phoenix and the place where the Phoenix girl was born. It is a place for young Miao men and women to find true love. The roads in the village are all paved with bluestone slabs and covered with cow dung. The houses are all built of stones, one by one, very neatly. There is no steel and cement in the whole village. The main material is stone. In the mountains, fields, and waterside, wherever people go, there are low walls built of stones everywhere, one by one, neatly and squarely, which shows the diligence of the Miao people. Laojiazhai is located in the heart of Miaojiang, and still preserves its simple and unique ethnic customs. When guests from afar visit the village, the hospitable Miao girls will wear drums to welcome guests, and the sound of drums and songs will linger in the village for miles. They will gather at the entrance of the village in their best clothes and sing loud Miao folk songs. This place is called "Shengmiao" in the words of the Guide, which means that it is different from Fenghuang Ancient Town, Shangri-La, Furong Town and other places with strong commercial flavor. It has not been well developed, has not been artificially modified, and is still very poor and backward. It is a place with great ethnic value and has maintained its original simple flavor.
