British-Style Villa

The English-style villa is located in the courtyard of No. 18 Nanming East Road, Guiyang City. It is one of the many villas built in Nanmingtang in the 1930s in our city. It was designed and constructed by Shanghai architect Tao Guilin. The villa is a garden-style house with brick and wood structure, blue bricks and red tiles. The two-story building has windows on the four walls, the outer walls are seamed with clear water, and the inner walls are whitewashed. There are 10 main rooms in total, and the ground is fully paved with catalpa wood floors. The dining room and the living room are parqueted on the floor, with clear floral decorations, which are extraordinarily elegant. There is a fireplace in the living room. There is a balcony of nearly 10 square meters at the entrance hall on the second floor. The house has a unique design, a solid structure, and good ventilation and lighting. It is a more distinctive one among many villas. With the changes of the times, the original Nanmingtang villa group has been demolished successively, and only this English-style villa has been completely preserved. It not only witnesses the development and changes of Guiyang city, but also proves the architectural condition of Guiyang mansion in the 1930s and 1940s. In October 2003, it was listed as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit by the Guiyang Municipal People's Government.
