Deshougong Ruins

So honestly, I had no idea what to expect, and this place exceeded my expectations by a mile. granted, I am a museum buff, but still, it is impressive. This new complex was rebuilt after the culmination of archaeological excavations on the Song Dynasty ruins in 2017, and they preserved the discoveries under the modern day reconstruction. What really made this special for me was 1. lots of English explanations everywhere. Making it more accessible. 2. The ruins are impressive on their own, but there are a lot of reconstructive videos showing you what it would have been like and interpreting the ruins for you, so even if you don't speak Chinese, that's no problem. 3. There are markers on the floor designating the route to follow making it even more easy to flow of the story unfolding. Most importantly, if you are a foreign visitor with no Chinese mobile number, don't panic, just show your passport to the security guards and they will let you in where you register your presence on the inside. We spent a thoroughly enjoyable 2.5h here, so please don't just think it is for internet celebrities and photo shoots, this place is fascinating.

Although it was rebuilt, it is worth seeing.

The tour guide is very enthusiastic, professional and experienced. The history of the Southern Song Dynasty and the stories of Hangzhou are like many treasures. You have to rely on professional tour guides to lead the way when visiting Deshou Palace.
